Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:
• Associate’s Degree or higher.
• Experience and thorough knowledge of ICD-9-CM, and DRG methodologies.
• Knowledge of data reporting requirements and proficiency in computer skills.
• Extensive knowledge in data collection and clinical reviews.
• Minimum 2 years of quality improvement audit.
Knowledge, Education and Skills Preferred:
RHIS, RHIT, CCS, or RN.
Job Summary:
The Clinical Data Analyst is responsible for monitoring compliance with applicable clinical documentation to support coding and billing regulations to insure appropriate reimbursement and to support public reporting.
Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):
1. Reviews DRG assignment for selected Medicare/Medicaid inpatients for the purpose of reimbursement, research and statistics in compliance with federal regulations according to ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding classification systems.
2. Analyzes physician documentation in the medical record for clinical appropriateness for coding accuracy and contacts physicians for clarification of documentation of final diagnoses for coding compliance.
3. Conducts chart reviews and submits the necessary abstracts for the specified diagnoses for public and regulatory reporting.
4. Maintains the chart review and data abstracting process for the JCAHO Core Measures process and NJDOH regulatory requirements.
5. Collaborates with the Performance Improvement Department to ensure appropriate statistical reports are prepared and presented to each individual project team.
6. Maintains knowledge of CMS, JCAHO guidelines and abstraction systems for intent of indicators, data abstraction, and report generation purposes.
7. Ensures that all variances are confirmed by the project team and appropriate physician.
8. Coordinates all statistical compilations requested by the project team members.
9. Makes recommendations on documentation improvement needs within the facility to improve patient care.
10. Assists the Inpatient Clinical Data Manager with education sessions for coding staff.
11. Renders monthly retrospective quality audits to ensure OIG compliance.
