Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:
• Graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in relevant care setting.

Knowledge, Education and Skills Preferred:
Required Certification/Licensing:
• Current valid NJ State Professional Registered Nurse license.
• Maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support HCP Certification

Job Summary:
The administrative head nurse assists the nurse manager(s) in providing leadership for the specified patient care area(s), the patient population of that area, and assigned staff in order to achieve desired outcomes. As such, he/she assumes responsibility as delegated for systems function, staff performance, and patient care during hours of operation.

Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):
1. Demonstrates effective leadership skills via active supervision of systems, functions, staff performance, and implementation of consistent accountability methods.
2. Assists the nurse manager(s) in the execution of outcomes based practice.
3. Evaluates the level of care provided by the unit staff and recommends appropriate educational programs and/or corrective action.
4. Participates in the budgetary planning and execution for the unit and department with emphasis on monitoring expenditures in supplies, equipment, staffing, and cost control measures.
5. Promotes Medical Center objectives for patient satisfaction through communication of data and Assists the nurse manger(s) in the implementation of methods to sustain or resolve patient satisfaction issues.
6. Assists the nurse manager(s) in standards development, continuing education, credentialing, performance appraisal, concurrent monitoring, utilization review, risk management, and active problem identification.
7. Acts as a “retention officer” for areas of responsibility and the department as a whole.
8. Maintains current knowledge of the professional and regulatory standards and communicates these standards to the area of practice as needed.
