Job Description
Iowa State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine and Iowa State University Extension are seeking applicants for a tenure-track, beef production medicine position with a 50-60% commitment to Extension and the remaining time committed to research and teaching. The successful applicant will develop an outcomes based Extension beef education program based on applied research related to establishing best practices for beef feedlot, stocker, and cow-calf production in Iowa. The person in this position will interact on a regular basis with faculty in the Iowa Beef Center, and leadership and members of the Iowa Cattlemen's Association and the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association. The incumbent will also have the opportunity to teach in the professional veterinary and the graduate curriculum. The candidate will join the Food Supply Veterinary Services section of an academic department having responsibilities for professional and graduate teaching, diagnostic services, research, field investigations, and outreach to veterinarians and producers. The Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine consists of approximately 50 faculty from disciplines including dairy, swine, beef and small ruminant production medicine, poultry, animal welfare, epidemiology, statistics, theriogenology, and diagnostic medicine (pathology, microbiology, toxicology, etc). Other collaborative opportunities in Ames include the Department of Animal Science, National Animal Disease Center, National Veterinary Services Laboratory, Center for Veterinary Biologics, and multiple specialties throughout the College of Veterinary Medicine. It is expected that extension faculty at ISU participate in revenue generation to support his/her Extension program.
Required Qualifications
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: DVM or equivalent degree, with a MS degree and demonstrated expertise in beef production medicine.
ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR: In addition to the qualifications listed above, a record of scholarship in a discipline of veterinary medicine related to beef production is required.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD degree and/or board certification in an appropriate discipline related to beef production medicine. Private practice experience with documented expertise in beef production management.
