Job Description
IPRT Company Assistance - Materials Assistance at Iowa State University is seeking an Assistant Scientist (I or II) in the field of materials science and engineering to provide engineering solutions to industrial problems. The position will interact with industry on short-term technical assistance projects. The duties of the position require the incumbent to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to interact with ISU staff and client company representatives at all levels.
Required Qualifications:
Assistant Scientist I - BS in materials science, metallurgy, metallurgical engineering or related field plus one year of experience which includes related industrial or laboratory experience.
Assistant Scientist II requires BS in above stated fields plus 4 years of related experience. An appropriate MS degree may substitute for up to 2 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in engineering problem solving and failure analysis (ability to conduct thorough and effective analyses of materials and processes); experience in project management, carrying out technical projects, and defining goals and fulfilling reporting requirements; experience utilizing analytical and characterization techniques including optical and electron microscopy, chemical analysis, metallography, and mechanical testing.
Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications
Special Conditions:
Position will be filled at the Assistant Scientist I or II level, dependent upon qualifications of successful candidate.
