Job Description
Conduct daily neuropharmacological and electrophysiological experiments with animals involved in research supported by NIH grants. Oversee, plan, and perform stereotaxic animal neurosurgeries and perfusions as necessary. Perform microinjection neuropharmacological experiments in behavioral learning paradigms. Perform multiple single unit recording in learning paradigms. Run complex data acquisition software and hardware packages including: a data acquisition system for recording multiple single unit activity of nerve cells, recording the ongoing kinematics of the animal's movements, recording EMG activity in peir-ocular muscles while the animal is learning and performing the tasks. Perform detailed histological analysis of injection sites and electrode tracts. Coordinate work of graduate students and technicians. Assist in the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications. Develop future research plans and experiments.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Neuroscience or related field and two years of experience in a behavioral neuropharmacological and electrophysiological laboratory. Experience with histological and neuroanatomical techniques (perfusions, histology, immunohistochemistry).
A related bachelors degree and 4 years of related experience may be substituted.
Preferred Qualifications
- Handling and training of animals employed in behavior learning experiments
- Direct experience utilizing microwires for recording from central nervous system neurons
- Experience using microinjection techniques in chronic behaving animals
- Experience in micromanufacturing
Salary
Minimum $40,906; commensurate with qualifications
