Job Description
The Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Iowa State University (ISU) seeks applicants for the position of tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Biostatistics.
This is a 12 month (A-Base) appointment.
The successful applicant will join a growing department that has responsibilities for research, professional and graduate teaching and professional practice and outreach for the food animal industry and food supply veterinary medicine. It is expected that the person who fills this position will demonstrate scholarship in research and teaching with evidence of national impact and recognition in biostatistics. The incumbent will collaborate with experts in the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine in order to study a number of challenging questions relating to evidence based medicine, livestock health, production, diagnostics, food safety, and quality assurance. Studies conducted in the department range from small laboratory experiments to large observational field studies involving thousands of animals.
The successful applicant will play a major role in providing statistical support for faculty in the department in the design, conduct and analysis of research projects. The incumbent will have the opportunity to work with scientists from fields such as epidemiology, bacteriology, virology, pathology, swine and dairy and beef and small ruminant production medicine and food safety. Potential research areas include infectious disease modeling, risk analysis, outcomes assessment, evidence based medicine, GIS analyses, survey analysis in areas of livestock health, production, diagnostics, food safety, and quality assurance. The incumbent will also have the opportunity to work with faculty from other departments in the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine in areas such as applied and basic research in biomedical sciences, microbiology, pathology, and companion animal medicine and surgery.
Teaching responsibilities will be primarily in the interdepartmental Preventive Veterinary Medicine major administered by VDPAM. This program has an emphasis on preventive medicine including epidemiology. Current topics taught include diagnostic test evaluation methods, longitudinal data analysis, evidence based medicine, and categorical data analysis. There are also opportunities to teach in the veterinary professional curriculum. We anticipate the incumbent will also develop a close working relationship with faculty in the ISU Department of Statistics. A collaborative or joint appointment with the Iowa State University Department of Statistics may be possible depending on the interests and qualifications of the candidate.
Required Qualifications:
Assistant Professor:
PhD in biostatistics or statistics or a closely related field.
Associate Professor:
PhD in biostatistics or statistics or a closely related field, experience and demonstrated scholarship in medical or veterinary medical research or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
An advanced degree in animal science or a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree. Postdoctoral research experience
