Job Description
This position will fulfill several needs including, but not limited to, coordination/performance/development/validation of bacterial tests (including molecular modalities) for research purposes; management/coordination functions of a high through-put microbial research laboratory and associated quality assurance and quality control activities. This individual will perform and report results of classical and molecular diagnostic tests; conduct, analyze, interpret, verify, and report test results on samples for research investigations. This person will be directly responsible for the laboratory bacteriology QA/QC program. Incumbent will be required to coordinate the activities of a number of staff that will help the individual perform classical and molecular diagnostic tests. The person will also participate in sample collection at farms, abattoirs and other animal or product locations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with a major in the particular field involved (i.e. Microbiology, Animal Science, etc).
Preferred Qualifications
Related master's degree and expertise/experience in research in veterinary and/or medical microbiology. Expertise with SOP's, QA/QC, and internal audits associated with classical and molecular microbiology. Supervisory/management experience including oversight of technical, clerical and student employees. Knowledge and use of basic and sophisticated laboratory equipment and instruments. Experience with development and validation of new microbiological procedures as well as transfer of technology and adaptation of existing procedures.
Salary
Minimum $28,468; commensurate with qualifications
