Job Description
The Department of Geological and Atmospheric Sciences at Iowa State University invites application for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level to begin August 2009 in the broad area of low-temperature geochemistry (could include, but not be limited to, the fields of environmental geochemistry, biogeochemistry, contaminant hydrogeology, paleoclimatology, and isotope geochemistry). Emphasis will be placed on the potential of the applicant to establish a successful, externally funded research program that complements existing strengths in the department including glaciology, hydrogeology, geophysics, climate modeling, economic geology, geoscience education, and tectonics. We also encourage interactions with researchers and faculty members in other units on campus, such as Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering; Agronomy; Chemistry; Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering; Ecology and Evolutionary Biology; Natural Resources Ecology and Management; the Ames Laboratory; the Iowa State Water Resources Research Institute; the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture; and the National Soil Tilth Laboratory. A commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels is also essential.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous research program, supervise graduate students, attract external funding, participate actively in our graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) and undergraduate teaching programs, and pursue interactions with other faculty and researchers within the department and in other units on campus.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should hold a PhD in geosciences or related field at the time of appointment.
