Description
Information International Associates, Inc. (IIa), an award-winning information and knowledge management company, is seeking a Computer Programmer to work on a variety of interesting, cutting-edge projects to support the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII). The NBII is an Internet-based public/private partnership for making biodiversity and ecosystems information available for effective science and education decision-making.
Responsibilities:
Converting project specifications and statements of problems/procedures into computer programs and software systems
Analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems
Automating or improving existing systems
Reviewing computer system capabilities, workflow, and limitations
Developing and writing computer programs to store, locate, and retrieve specific documents, data, and information
Programming web sites
Providing technical expertise in the use of DBMS
Support overall management and operation of NBII Network using Plumtree Portal Product to deliver customizable public information
Support in-house data and information management including thesaurus and Search web services, portlet development, user interface design and Customization, employee services integration and statistics development
Designing, building, and managing websites, web applications, and portlets
Requirements Qualifications (Required):
Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science
Qualifications Desired:
Experience with Plumtree Portal or BEA Aqualogic
Familiarity with Federal requirements (508 compliance)
Previous work experience in scientific environment and familiarity with scientific websites and data management
Highly organized and strong attention to detail
Skill Set:
Demonstrated knowledge of current DBMS’s technologies and applications design
Demonstrated experience with DBMS internals
Knowledge of PHP/JSP, ASP, XML, WMS, MySQL, Java Script, RDBMS (Oracle), Perl, gdlib (C based graph library)
Understanding Unix Cron daemon (for automated processes)
Some knowledge of algebra and geometry
Familiarity with information retrieval techniques such as pre/post query processing, relevance ranking, etc.
Demonstrated ability to work independently or under general supervision
