Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements:
The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include a Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work or related area. In addition to specified educational requirements, there shall be a minimum requirement of two (2) years relevant work experience - preferably in academic and career advising; previous experience in working with disadvantaged and underrepresented students, parents, and adult populations is desirable is preferred; possessing an understanding and knowledge of implementing and evaluating academic programs through core curricula in the content areas of math through pre-calculus, laboratory science, composition, literature, language, study skills development and FCAT, ACT, and SAT techniques; knowledge of community college educational programs, tutorial programs, and the needs of at-risk students; strong leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills; excellent communication skills – both verbal and written; proven experience with Microsoft Office and Windows applications to include competence in word processing, database, and spreadsheets; excellent problem solving skills; having a working knowledge of Indian River County; must possess a valid Florida driver's license; and ability to empathize and work with persons representing culturally diverse backgrounds. A Master's degree as well as prior supervisory experience is preferred.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: supervising and directing part-time employees, volunteers, and students. As such, the position is responsible for regular decision making demonstrating judgment evaluation. Further essential functions and responsibilities include: counseling and academic services for Upward Bound participants to include advising participants of high school and college requirements; scheduling of facilities, equipment and transportation; preparing, tracking, and documenting student data; preparing reports and newsletters; monitoring and designing programs and supervising all instructors and residence counselors.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: initiating, supervising, and monitoring all aspects of the Project Upward Bound academic programs; attending regularly scheduled staff meetings with the Director and other staff to plan and evaluate program operations; reviewing and recommending instructional materials to be used in the program; supervising instructors and residence counselors; supervising after-school tutorials and offering mentoring services during after-school and summer residency program; planning and coordinating field trips and cultural programs; monitoring students and program progress and reporting results (preparing academic profiles and IEPs; performing college admissions procedures; tracking grades and test scores to include tracking students’ academic, behavioral, and attendance records in school and during Upward Bound activities; preparing monthly counseling reports and weekly tutorial schedules, etc.) as deemed appropriate by the Director; writing a quarterly newsletter; assisting in student recruitment; making home visitations; performing data collection functions using technology-based tools to gather, assemble and report statistics on program metrics; developing and implementing student identification and selection procedures; coordinating student transportation, facilities and equipment needs of the program; having a workable knowledge and understanding of the Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR) specific to compliance, cost principles, and administrative responsibilities that govern TRIO programs; being familiar with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-21, along with the Federal Register and how they apply to programmatic principles; and fulfilling other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Program Director and Dean of Minority Affairs.
Essential Physical Skills:
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRCC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.

This form will be used to notify the vice president who issues certificates of the disciplines requested to teach.
Adjunct Faculty Data Form
This form can be downloaded from the IRCC Human Resources website or will be included in the application packet picked up in the Office of Human Resources/Employment at the Main Campus, Fort Pierce. This form will be used to provide additional information to the instructional dean.
Philosophy of Education
To demonstrate proficiency in written communication (SACS Criteria 4.8.1), all applicants pursuing a Faculty or administrative position must present in their own words their Philosophy of Education.
Transcripts
Photocopies of transcripts are required to apply. If you are selected for an interview, you will be asked to have official transcripts sent. Official transcripts are required in order to issue the IRCC Teaching Certificate. To be considered "official", these transcripts must be received by IRCC directly from the institution attended. Three Letters of Recommendation
Professional letters are preferred with personal letters acceptable. You can provide these with your application or request that your recommenders mail them directly to the Human Resources Office/Employment at the Main Campus, Fort Pierce.
One-Year Work Verification Form/Letter
This form can be downloaded from the IRCC Human Resources website or will be included in the application packet picked up in the Office of Human Resources at the Main Campus, Fort Pierce. This form can be used as one of your three letters of recommendation. You can provide a letter in lieu of this form as long as the letter is on company letterhead and includes the following information: job title, dates of employment, and specific responsibilities as they relate to the discipline(s) you are requesting to teach.
Interview Process
Individuals selected will be contacted by telephone or letter to arrange for an interview. After the interviewing process is completed, you will be contacted concerning any missing documents necessary for issuing the IRCC Teaching Certification.
Teaching Certification
All IRCC full-time and part-time (Adjunct) faculty are required to be certified by IRCC in the discipline/subject taught. This certificate will specify each discipline and the level at which it may be taught, date of issue, and expiration date. It will be issued by the Vice President of Instructional Services with the original going to the employee and a copy being placed in the employee's personnel file.
The levels to be certified at and the minimum qualifications are as follows:
- Baccalaureate (Credit): Requires a Master's degree in the discipline; or any Master's degree with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in the field being taught. In addition, some disciplines may require a terminal degree.
- Pre-baccalaureate (Credit): Requires a Master's degree in the discipline; or any Master's degree with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in the field being taught.
- Technical Specialty (Credit): Requires one-year's experience working in the area of specialization to be taught and at least an A.A., A.S. or A.A.S. degree.
- College Prep Certification: Requires a Bachelor's degree in the discipline related to the teaching assignment and either teaching experience in a discipline related to the assignment or graduate training in remedial education.
- College Prep English: Baccalaureate degree or higher in English Literature, Language Arts, Journalism, or English-related Education degree, with appropriate teaching experience.
- College Prep Mathematics: Baccalaureate degree or higher in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics or Business, Business Education, Natural Sciences, Natural Sciences Education, Computer Science, Computer Science Education or Engineering with substantial Mathematics course work through Calculus, with appropriate teaching experience.
- College Prep Reading: Baccalaureate degree or higher in Reading, Broadcasting or Journalism, Literature, Language Arts, or Reading related Education degree, with appropriate teaching experience.
- Adult Education (Non-Credit): Requires a Bachelor's degree and attributes or experiences, which help instructors to relate to the particular needs of the adults they teach.
- Other Non-College Credit Courses: Instructor must have sufficient combined education/training and work experience in the area of specialization to prove expertise.
Background Checks
Employment may be contingent and probationary pending fingerprint and background clearances, which will include criminal convictions, and may include consumer credit, motor vehicle driving, and other reports. A processing fee of $15 will be charged at the time of fingerprinting.
