Koch companies have a presence in nearly 60 countries and employ about 70,000 people. INVISTA is seeking a Construction Engineer to support capital projects for our Core Intermediates business. These projects will originate primarily from our petrochemical manufacturing facilities located in the Texas Gulf Coast region.
The primary role of the Construction Engineer is to represent the Owner INVISTA) in the construction of various size projects and to provide front-end loading input to project managers to develop construction strategies and schedules, and also provide the interface between the Owner project team and the Engineering Procurement Contractor as well as the Construction Contractors. Primary responsibilities include the oversight of the construction site with regard to safety, quality, schedule, cost, and compliance to specifications. This position will act in a manner consistent with the INVISTA values/principles/policies.
Responsibilities generally include:
- Assure compliance and safety of projects during design, implementation, and commissioning.
- Manage the development, evaluation, of the construction phases of project implementation in order to ensure project completion as efficiently and effectively as possible.
- Interface with contractors to assure all objectives are met including compliance, quality, cost, and schedule.
- Works with operating areas and maintenance on prioritization of project resources and execution of schedule.
- Maintains active interface with area project owners for progress, commitments and change management.
- Actively champions best practices and assures deliverables are completed in line with plans thus ensuring success through all phases.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable design standards to assure compliance and quality.
- Ensures staffing and de-staffing plans are in-line with resourcing strategy of the project.
- Serves as the INVISTA interface to the construction contractor, project team, operations and engineering; especially with regard to installation and execution activities and resolving field problems.
- Provide technical expertise and consultation (constructability) in the design, contract development/bidding, and construction phases of projects.
- Coordinate site visits, interpret bid specifications, explain site specific security and safety regulations.
- Responsible for providing and maintaining a safe worksite.
- Proactively manages contractors to prevent accidents and injuries. Will lead investigations as required.
- Monitors contractors and provides guidance to ensures complete understanding of the scope and to minimize construction claims.
- Continually inspects the construction work to assure that job schedules are maintained and that work is being performed safely as per codes and design specifications.
- Constantly vigilant to ensure that quantity and quality of materials, equipment, and contract labor meet contract requirements.
- Documents field activities and products necessary reports on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Coordinates duties of other construction engineers and/or contract inspectors.
- Supports Project Team in the review and authorization of field changes.
- Verifies and approves invoices to validate accuracy with respect to work performance and/or equipment delivered, and recommends approval for payment.
- Must act independently regarding most daily and weekly activities, and interacts with supervising manager usually on a consulting and reporting basis.
Requirements:
- 4+ yrs experience as a Construction Engineer with at least $5,000,000 capital projects experience in a chemical/construction environment
- 4+ yrs experience at a manufacturing site
- Physical capability to climb stairs and ladders
- Travel requirement 25%-50% , or a temporary relocation to INVISTA locations may be required from time to time for this job
Knowledge of construction and general chemical plant safety requirements. Be able to understand and enforce contract documents. General knowledge of project execution and ability to manage non-technical phases of construction (e.g., planning and scheduling, material receiving, progress tracking, etc.) Be familiar with quality control techniques and their application in the construction industry. Preferences:
- Bachelors degree (or higher) in engineering (i.e. Construction, Mechanical, Civil & Chemical etc.)
- 4+ yrs experience as a Construction Engineer / Construction Manager
- 4+ yrs direct hire experience as a project manager with chemical/petrochemical/refinery
- Experience with piping or E&I contracts.
- Professional Engineers License
- Direct experience with Front End Loading on Projects.
