JOB SUMMARY:
The Logistics Engineer will help improve operations by identifying solutions to problems and effectively implementing these solutions into the core of business workflow and decision making processes. This role serves as a consultant to the J.B. Hunt's various business units providing value through a deep expertise in business processes analysis, an understanding of complex quantitative analysis techniques and experience in applying technology as an enabler to improved business performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Improve the productivity, quality, performance and profitability of J.B. Hunt operations, and support the implementation and coordination of transportation planning processes. This position works with all areas and levels of the company to provide information and analysis regarding company operations, to design and implement new and revised business processes, and to support company planning activities. The position requires the ability to successfully manage projects independently. The position requires strong teamwork and personal relating skills as well as solid oral and written communication skills.
Process Improvement
- Collect and analyze information on company operations.
- Develop ways of measuring and reporting operational effectiveness.
- Analyze, design and implement complex business systems.
- Communicate and sell improvement ideas to key decision-makers.
- Solicit feedback from functional areas concerning proposed process improvement ideas.
- Define and implement business process improvement projects.
- Measure and report the benefit of implemented projects.
Project Management
- Develop project work plans and budgets.
- Perform economic analysis of proposed capital expenditure alternatives.
- Manage projects independently.
- Manage and collaborate effectively in an enterprise cross-functional effort involving multiple departments (IT, Engineering, Operations, Marketing, etc)
- Complete assigned tasks on-time and error-free.
Operations Research/Management Science
- Provide transportation planning support through optimization techniques.
- Evaluate business scenarios using discrete event simulation modeling applications.
- Leverage forecasting methods to support demand planning activities.
- Support pricing decisions through the development yield management solutions.
- Analyze and manipulate data through queries and programming tools
- Integrate decision support models into business systems
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
1. Education: At least a BS in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research or Management Science. MS IE or MBA considered a plus.
2. Prior experience: Co-Op or internship experience considered a plus. Extra curricular campus activities considered a plus (campus, athletics, Greek system, etc). Hands-on experience in analyzing business processes, developing decision support tools or applying operations research techniques considered a plus.
3. Computer skills: C++, Java, Visual Basic; ILOG CPLEX/Dispatcher experience is a plus. Hands-on experience with best-of-breed supply chain management solutions (like i2 and Manugistics) is a plus.
4. Language skills: English. Candidate must have strong communication skills (both oral and written).
5. Mathematical skills: Education and experience in the application of traditional linear programming optimization techniques, non-linear techniques, meta-heuristics, discrete-event simulation, as well as, predictive modeling/forecasting techniques (time series models, neural networks, Bayesian techniques, etc)
