Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Computer Systems Engineer-System Modernization and Integration.

Responsibilities
Design and implementation of proof-of-concept Enterprise Systems comprised of existing (and future) COTS and GOTS products that are flexible and scalable for future growth.
The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge base in software engineering (i.e., object oriented design and programming) and the ability to understand and apply Enterprise Technologies (portals, portlets, web services, http). Design and implement "proof-of-concept" architectures that employ Enterprise Technologies (portals, portlets, web services, etc) for the integration of Commercial and Government software products that support the collection, analysis and reporting of intelligence data. Provide Enterprise System technical insight and expertise to IC sponsor during technical exchange meetings with contractors and other Government organizations. Evaluate and provide feedback on IC project releases and updates. Maintain an understanding of the IC sponsor domain and software projects.

Qualifications
Required: BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, EE, Math or related discipline. At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in software design and implementation. Strong foundation in the concepts of software engineering with an innate ability to design and build software that is scalable and flexible. Knowledge in Object Oriented Design and Programming. Self-motivated to learn and apply technology to solve problems; searches for and obtains potential solutions to problems. Ability to share information and work in a collaborative environment. Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Desired: Experience in the design and development of Enterprise level software (with one or more of the major software platforms i.e. .NET and/or J2EE) with knowledge and experience in the following areas: Servlets and JSPs, Portals and Portlets, Web services and SOA, Public Key Infrastructures, Authentication and Authorization, Awareness, knowledge and/or experience in Electronic Intelligence systems.

Special Work Conditions
Local and limited non-local travel for meetings and field support at sponsor locations and military facilities. May be required to work offsite at a sponsor facility.

Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination. Preference for current SSBI.
