Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Underwater Acoustic Physicist.

Responsibilities
Job Description: Position involves mathematical modeling and prediction of the performance of legacy and proposed sonar systems in different environments with marine physics-based acoustic propagation model development. Duties include underwater acoustic performance predictions for Navy sonar systems, analysis of oceanographic and marine geophysical databases, acoustic model development, model validation and reconciliation against sea trial data, and documentation and presentation of results. Work as part of team with system engineers and analysts in performing system assessments and performance predictions.

Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or Mathematics. Experience in underwater acoustic performance predictions and sonar system modeling. Willingness to work under schedule pressure and maintain commitment to quality acoustic modeling. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical results to audiences of varying levels of technical expertise both orally and in written form. Programming skills in C/C++ and Matlab in a Unix/Linux environment.

Special Working Conditions: Occasional travel (including by air) to support working group meetings and participation in field tests at shore sites or onboard Navy and research vessels.

Desired: MS or PhD in Physics or related discipline. Academic concentration or background in underwater acoustics, marine physics, or oceanography.

Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
