Experience:
Required: BS/MS/Ph.D in engineering, physical sciences, computer science, mathematics, or equivalent. 5+ years experience in communications systems and/or government systems. Demonstrated strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Familiarity with government community, sponsors, and programs. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination. Preference for current SSBI.

Desired: MS/PhD in engineering or computer science. 7+ years experience in government communication and network systems. Recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community, sponsors, and programs.

Special Working Conditions: Considerable off-site work at sponsor's office/facility and travel within the United States could be required.

Job Description:
Assume a technical position as a communications systems engineer supporting various government sponsors, such as DoD and intelligence agencies. Communications systems include wireless line-of-sight and satellite communications systems and networks. Position available with the communications and systems networking group (VCS) within the Information Systems Branch(VIB). Typical tasks (with notional percentage of time) include: End-to-end communications systems analysis and development. Act as a trusted agent providing government sponsors with critical needs assessments, capability assessments, early conceptual studies, requirements development, architecture development, equipment integration, test planning, and test execution. Provide technical oversight of developmental projects. Ensure alignment of government initiatives across multiple agencies. Provide active participation in working groups, IPTs, and government teams to assist in the development of communications systems. Work with teammates to ensure designs satisfy needs of government sponsors, and are well-integrated with other government systems. Provide systems engineering solutions to advance global network connectivity (e.g Global Information Grid (GIG)) development. Advance and apply new technologies to enable evolution of existing communications systems to higher data rates and IP based solutions. May involve work across diverse disciplines including physical layer integration, networking architectures, transport protocols, QoS performance, antenna and RF engineering. Assist in APL business development associated with government communication systems.
