implements and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the standards of quality and contribute to the total organization and philosophy. The DON directs the staff and operation of the nursing department, manages nursing activities, assists with formulation of program goals and objectives, interprets and administers pertinent laws; evaluates nursing staff; maintains nursing budget; maintains contact with individuals who have an impact on program activities; makes supervisory visits to help train , educate, mentor and determine quality of nursing care; assures optimal quality of care is provided in a safe environment; intervenes in crisis situations; as well as investigates all unusual incidents; compiles data and prepares periodic nursing reports.
