Description
Job Summary:
The Coder is responsible for coding diagnoses and adding charges to patient accounts, upon thorough review of the medical record documentation. S/he follows Official Coding Guidelines, all HIPAA, Federal, and State Confidentiality, Privacy and Security Laws, and maintains accuracy and productivity standards.
Qualifications:
Minimum Associates Degree in Health Information Management of related field, preferred.
RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification required
Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding principles
Knowledge of MS-DRG/ APC structure and regulatory requirements preferred
Proficiency with typing and computer applications
Knowledge of Meditech and 3M Encoder software preferred
Thorough knowledge of medical terminology
