INTRODUCTION
This job description outlines the requirements, reporting relationships, authority, responsibilities, duties, and measurements of performance of the Business Development Design Engineer/Estimator.

BASIC FUNCTION
The basic functions of the Business Development Design Engineer/Estimator is to carry out the plans, objectives and directives of the Director of Business Development (DBD) and the Idaho District Manager. The Design Engineer/Estimator will work within Project Office and support the the Account Management team to create new business.

Aid in maximizing the profitability of the company by helping to develop estimates that are accurate, profitable and meet the expectations of the customers to be functional systems.

Basic functions include:

May assist with site verification and/or field surveys
Provide detailed estimates
Wright technical proposals
Provide project management support
Coordinate engineering work
Teamwork
Communication
Engineering pre-design
Vendor sourcing and costing
Customer service and presentation
Setting and achieving the highest quality standards
Achieve timelines for estimates to exceed customer expectations
Drafting and/or AutoCAD skills a plus


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Business Development Design Engineer/Estimator reports directly to the Director of Business Development with input and direction from the Idaho District Manager.

The following positions report directly to the position of Business Development Design Engineer/Estimator:

REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Required: High School Graduation with at least seven plus years of trade experience in an Estimating capacity to understand

Preferred: 4 year engineering degree or10 years of related work experience. .

Experience: A total of eight (8) years experience in an HVAC or Industrial refrigeration Contracting company mostly in design engineering, estimating and sales

Skill, Knowledge and Abilities:

The ability to support and impact the ability to exceed established sales goals
Must have the people skills to work with vendors and employees.
Have the ability and knowledge to identify and prioritize work and produce to meet the demands of Account Managers
Ability to solve problems and execute policies and procedures.
Excellent writing skills to communicate internally and externally
Ability to provide leadership in a team environment with all team members
Proficient with a computer MS Outlook, Word, Excel and Estimating software
Considerable knowledge in diagnosing, practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in maintenance and repair of refrigeration systems.
Excellent knowledge of the codes, regulations and certificates such as `ammonia and refrigerant safe handling` such as IIAR, IMC, IFC, ASHRAE and ANSI.
Communicate closely with the Professional Engineer (PE) and Account Managers (AM`s) to verify quality discovery of system requirements
Evaluate system design requirements to present to Engineering and/or calculate the engineering load requirements and other key criteria for materials & equipment.
Prepare, present for review and complete profitable estimates to company guidelines.
All communications with the customers should be done in coordination with the AM`s, PE and/or DBD.
Communicate directly with internal purchasing and external vendors to develop costs


Physical Requirements:

Standing for an extended period of time
Carrying, use of hands, eyes, arms, and voice.
Climbing up and down ladders
Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds without assistance.
Must pass a drug-screening test, which is given on post hire and on a random basis.
Ability to meet all customers facility safety requirements


Mental:

Basic statistical and analytical business math skills.
Understand job costing information.
Good reading, writing and spelling ability to communicate clearly and effectively in the English language on all business levels.


Licenses/Certifications:

This position requires a valid driver`s license and proof of a clean driving record, and be insurable under the Company carrier.
Relevant technical training, licenses, Commercial Food Equipment Service Association (CFESA)
Commercial refrigeration equipment repair experience.


Working Conditions:

Work will consist of being exposed to chemical, electrical, and construction hazards.
The weather can be extremely hot and humid to to cold conditions.
Requires driving to clients and job sites with overnight stays as required
Willingness to be involved with the emergency on-call rotation that includes nights and weekends.



AUTHORITY
Develop estimates and prepare proposals
Contribute with presenting and closing business within company guidelines
Negotiating Agreements for new business and ongoing services


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Coordinate the projects of the company to ensure cooperation, control and profit.
Schedule and internally request materials and supplies needed in advance and ensure it is available when needed to meet project and/or customer requirements. This may involve reviewing the schedule with the Service Dispatcher, following up with the Purchasing Agent in advance, and any other information supplied with the contract.
Make every attempt to meet the required project schedules, consistent with high quality output and safe operation of the service activities.
Ensure that customer complaints are quickly addressed and resolved.
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, city, municipality laws, codes, and regulations as required.
Assist in the Company`s efforts of promotion and capturing additional markets and services of interest.
Achieve the desired levels of performance and productivity, both in terms of quantity produced and quality of work.
Recognize when a change of service or additional work is required on a project to meet quality specifications, and ensure the proper paperwork is completed.
Keep abreast of local competition and other activities, that may directly affect the company.
Monitor all activities and take any corrective action when necessary to assure quality completion of each and every project assigned.
When customer concerns arise, work directly with Director of Business Development, Idaho District Manager and/or Account Managers to assure issues are resolved
To advise/assist the Account Managers in sales, negotiations, or approval of pricing issues.
Continually solve problems as they arise. Function as a troubleshooter, resolving all potential problem areas before they can have a negative effect on the Company`s operational efficiency.
To ensure projects are scheduled and the necessary people informed in a timely manner to contribute to the process in meeting the time schedule set for the service.
To make regular visits to Accounts to support customer needs.
To ensure the latest changes are updated for the job on the work order before the technician goes out on the call.
To review the completed work order for accuracy before it goes into billing.
To attend meetings as requested for training and team coordination/teamwork
To keep your supervisor informed of all problems, potential and actual, that cannot be resolved satisfactorily within the local office.
Assisting in accounts receivable collection when appropriate,
To maintain a satisfactory production rate and strive to improve without hampering quality or stretching safety parameters.
Perform any other duties or special projects in the best interest of the company, or as assigned by your supervisor



MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE

Project cost and expenses are under budget every quarter throughout the year and corrective action is taken immediately to change adverse trends.
All customer complaints have been or are in the process of being satisfactorily resolved.
Demonstrates good judgment, reasoning, and tact when investigating and handling difficult situations.
Works well with all others inside and outside the company.
Consistently show ability to recognize and deal with priorities.
Recognizes and performs duties, which need to be performed although not directly assigned.
Safety is enforced and serious accidents or safety violations are kept at zero. All accidents are immediately reported to the office to be logged in.
Satisfactory completion of all projects to the quality required by your supervisor
All jobs are completed within quality standards eliminating redo of work.
Waste of time and material has been controlled to a minimum.
