Job Summary:
Help establish and maintain Parents Helping Parents support groups in order to prevent child abuse and neglect. Assist in strengthening families within the League regions through a statewide network of groups for parents and those in a parental role. Help to reduce isolation and increase contact between parents and guardians in an effort to educate, enhance parenting skills and provide support.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Development and Marketing of Support Groups 50%
Contact agencies for the purpose of establishing groups; meet with agency and community representatives to explain program; provide information and materials. Describe benefits of support groups; discuss support provided by the League and how to get one started. Responsible for marketing of support groups in the communities. Responsible for marketing information to communities through distribution of flyers, brochures, newspapers articles, cable and presentations. Establish a network of expert presenters in Kansas to provide ongoing workshops for support groups. Assist in the development of online support groups for parent, grandparents and kin raising children and assist in the supervision and monitoring of the these groups. Provide technical assistance, parenting information and information on community resources to the online parent leaders/facilitators of the online support groups. Responsible for the program mailings of information, parenting materials and incentive gifts to the support groups
Community Relations 15%
Respond to: requests for information, speaking engagements, the media, possible members, professionals, and any inquiries regarding the groups. Keep Parent Helpline, Self-Help network and other resources informed of new groups and referral information.
Supervision of Volunteer Staff and Support Groups 25%
Provide initial and in-service training for sponsors and facilitators. Supervise volunteer parent leaders/facilitator staff, providing assistance, information, and materials. Supply information for Parents Helping Parents statewide newsletter. Maintain regular contact with groups. Assist in the maintenance of the Parents Helping Parents Statewide Advisory Council.
Collection and Data 10%
Collect and record data on group attendance, personnel involved, and current status and progress reports. Submit quarterly reports to the grantor and write annual grant renewal application. Devise evaluation tools and encourage groups to cooperate.
NONESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Present on agency services and give agency tours
- Help with Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Campaign and Governor’s Conference on the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect
- Give Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention presentations as needed
- Serve on various internal and external committees
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and Experience Requirements:
Required:
High school diploma, some college experience
1-3 years experience in Human Services field
Good communication skills both written and oral
Experience working with public
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services field
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Computer skills
Child development
Experience working with parents
Understanding of child abuse and neglect
Willing to learn and continue to learn

Kansas Children’s Service League offers medical coverage through Preferred Health Systems (PHS). Employees and their dependents are eligible for coverage the first of the month following 30 days of employment. Dependent children are eligible for coverage to age 24. Employees can choose from two PPO plan options.
