Job Description:
This position is responsible for the day-to-day manufacturing operations in the Compacts / Wear Parts Value Streams in the Rogers facility. Safe, cost effective processes and equipment and Lean improvements are key responsibilities to insure the satisfaction of our customers, employees and Kennametal stakeholders. The position is meant to bring standardization to all areas of the value streams through the development of our people, processes and equipment. The Manufacturing Manager assists the Compacts / Wear Parts Value Streams Operations Manager in developing, communicating and implementing strategic plans.
Works with the Value Stream Operations Manager – Compacts/Wear Parts and project teams to develop, implement and monitor manufacturing systems for the consistent safe manufacturing, inspection and test of product. Initiates corrective action programs as required.
Insures needed resources (people, capital, equipment, etc) are available to meet customers daily demand for quality product - delivered on time. Works with the Supervisors to develop hourly manpower plans. Interfaces with other managers (Materials, Facilities, HR, etc) to maximize production assets and lower manufacturing costs.
Develops and reviews key performance measures (KPIs)- lead-time, first time through, quality, due dates, work in process, inventory, machine run time, safety & housekeeping for the Compacts/Wear Parts area. Reviews data through the use of formal and informal continuous improvement teams with visual metrics. Insures performance is communicated to all levels through the use of LEAD boards and individual feedback.
Provides expertise and insight into the manufacturability of new or modified products as well as capacity input for operations planning and capital expenditures. Monitors and oversees all of manufacturings expenditures and variances. Works with the Value Stream Operations Manager and the Manufacturing Controller to establish the fiscal year manufacturing budget. Monitors and controls monthly expenses against budget. Participates in all KVBS strategies as required.
Leads the internal operational programs that will drive the plant toward a manufacturing Center of Excellence. Lean Manufacturing supported by the Greenbelt process, process enhancements, cost improvements, capital improvements and technology advancements will all be utilized.
Provides for the training and development of supervisors and operators. Participates in, provides and supports supervisory and hourly employee training through coaching for improvement, providing technical instruction, cross training and encouraging participation in educational opportunities
Experience and Skills:
Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing experience, seven (7) of which are in a leadership position. Proven ability to implement LEAN manufacturing and Continuous Improvement and to drive significant change in a manufacturing plant environment. Knowledge of cost accounting, material control systems, and quality assurance techniques are required. Experience with ISO 9000 and Six Sigma strategies is required. A proven record of developing people and success in a team environment is desired. Bachelors degree in Engineering, Engineering or related fields is required; advanced degree is preferred.
