Flint Hills Resources is seeking an Environmental Engineer to support the biodiesel plants of our Renewables Operations Group. The Environmental Engineer will join the site leadership team to collaborate with the Renewables group and facility employees in fulfilling all environmental obligations. This includes the development of innovative solutions for evolving standards. Diverse areas of focus include risk management, air compliance, water management, waste and regulatory reports. The successful candidate will have experience in environmental compliance and regulations (e.g. Air/Water/Waste) with emphasis in operations within ethanol, refining, or petrochemical facilities. This role is strongly supported by the expertise of corporate legal counsel and a company-wide commitment to environmental stewardship.
Responsibilities include: - Analyzing and managing risks
- Understanding environmental compliance expectations
- Understanding potential changes to environmental standards and regulations
- Completing/ maintaining accurate regulatory reports
- Providing guidance regarding all levels of environmental regulations
- Ensuring company compliance with all laws and regulations
- Providing and facilitating environmental training
- Utilizing computer management systems to confirm that environmental issues are identified, tracked and closed
Work Experience & Skills Required: - A proven background in environmental management with a minimum of 4 years experience
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills- ability to communicate effectively with peers, customers and management (technical and non-technical) regarding complex technical concepts
Education Required: - A Bachelor`s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience
Work Experience & Skills Preferred: - 5+ years environmental experience at a biodiesel, ethanol, or petrochemical plant
- Experience with implementing standards/procedures/training
- Data analysis experience (i.e. air emissions databases, Excel, etc.)
Education Preferred: - A bachelor`s degree in Engineering and/or an environmental field
Other Considerations: - Willingness to occasionally work different shifts, based on project needs
- Demonstrated strong leadership skills as role is a member of the Site Leadership Team
- Individual must possess strong communication & interpersonal skills, be able to build strong relationships with both internal and external customers and participate effectively on cross-functional teams
- This role will require periodic travel to our biodiesel plant in Euless, TX (0%-30%)
- This position requires an individual to have the ability to negotiate in, on and around piping at both grade level and above grade elevations. Requires the ability to navigate vertical ladders and spiral tank stairs to reach work areas, stopping, bending, and squatting. This position may, on occasion, require the supervision of activities in confined spaces and the ability to enter same spaces through 24" diameter manways. This position may, on occasion, require the physical ability to utilize respirators and SCBA. A tolerance for scents common to renewable fuel plant operations is required as well as those of construction and maintenance related activities such as welding, painting, and tank cleaning.
