Description

Flint Hills Resources, a producer of biofuels since the 1980s, owns and operates four ethanol plants in Iowa as well as one ethanol plant in Nebraska with a combined capacity to produce 435 million gallons of ethanol annually, and 1.2 million tons of ethanol byproducts for livestock producers. The company is seeking a Grain Merchandiser for its facility in Shell Rock, IA, which purchases approximately 40 million bushels of corn per year.


Two Grain Merchandisers share responsibilities at the Shell Rock facility collaborating with each other and the merchandising teams at Flint Hills Resources ethanol plants in Iowa Falls, Menlo, Fairbank, & Fairmont. The group works together to understand the local and global markets, and develop efficient innovations for purchasing a combined annual total of about 195 million bushels of Iowa corn.

As part of the site leadership team, the Shell Rock Grain Merchandisers work directly with local farmers and plant operations members to strengthen business relationships and opportunities for growth.

As a Grain Merchandiser, you will play a key role in the development, communication, and execution of priorities and strategies for the Shell Rock ethanol plant. In addition you will:

  • Collaborate with all FHR`s grain merchandisers on a daily basis to understand and communicate market values
  • Establish long-term relationships with your customers by developing an understanding of their business and what they value through face to face meetings
  • Understand both truck and rail freight spreads and impact on market basis values
  • Capability to consolidate global and local market drivers into a Point of View and executable purchasing strategy for the Shell Rock plant
  • Develop sound market knowledge and implement processes to grow commerical merchandising strategies and support plant initiatives
  • Drive for continuous improvement as you manage the inbound logistics of the facility
  • Be an integral part of the plant leadership team, assisting in the growth and success of the Shell Rock ethanol plant
  • Help to drive base business and innovation through organizational and Site Leadership team activities
  • Learn risk management processes and strategies
  • Gain practical experience and develop your skills necessary for career growth opportunities within our organization

Work Experience & Skills Required:

  • 0-2 years of experience in grain merchandising, grain purchasing, or similar applicable experience
  • Willing and able to travel 20%-30% of the time
Education Required:
  • A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
Experience and Skills Preferred:
  • Ethanol/DDG industry knowledge
  • 2+ years of experience in grain merchandising, grain purchasing, or similar applicable experience.
