Development Officer - College of Veterinary Medicine / Regular Full-Time

Job Location: Manhattan, KS

Director of Development - College of Veterinary Medicine

Description:
Professional fund-raising position responsible for assisting with the direction and implementation of a comprehensive development program for raising private gifts to the Kansas State University Foundation in support of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Kansas State University. The position will have a focus on raising gifts of $10,000 and up. This position reports to the Director of Development of the College. This is a regular full-time exempt position.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist with directing programs for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for prospective and present major gift donors to the College and Kansas State University, working with the dean, department heads, professional staff, university administrators, faculty and volunteer leadership.
  • Develops and implements both annual and long-range goals, objectives and strategies to maximize private support through various sources (individuals, corporations, foundations and planned giving vehicles) for the College.
  • Assist with the direction and implementation of an ongoing program of communication with donors which recognizes past and current commitments and fosters support for future efforts.
  • Communicates constituency needs and priorities with alumni, friends and donors.
  • Coordinates preparation and development of major gift proposals for prospects of the College.
  • Assists the administration and volunteer boards of the College as assigned in developing private support.
  • Develops an understanding of the KSU Foundation programs, policies and objectives.
  • Represents the KSU Foundation and the College on committees and at meetings both internal and external to the University.
  • Participates in Foundation activities (i.e. annual meetings of the Board of Trustees, campaign activities, etc.).
  • Participates in the College development activities (i.e. annual advisory council meetings, alumni functions, Telefund, etc.).
  • Travels regionally to call on current and prospective donors to solicit donations and/or communicates with donors/prospects by letter or phone.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Education:
Bachelors degree required, preferably in marketing, business administration, higher education, public relations, communications or related field.

Experience:
Fundraising or other career related experience preferred.

Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including computer skills; organizational and interpersonal skills. Must be results-orientated, quality-driven and team oriented. Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on projects. Confidentiality important.

Requirements:
Demonstrates a solid understanding of development techniques and systems based on past performance. Exhibits passion and enthusiasm for his/her cause. Willing to work hard. Communicates well with people and exhibits good listening skills. A valid motor vehicle operator's license and acceptable driving record. Travel required.
