Job Description:

Mechanical Engineer with a solid knowledge in machine design principles, proven skills in equipment design, automation work cells and management of such projects. Ability to manage a team of engineers and effectively manage the customer.  Utilize CATIAv5, SolidWorks, or SolidEdge to perform mechanical design functions associated with the aircraft, automotive and the machine/automation development industries. Provide technical direction to junior engineers. Develop complex mechanical designs through personal application of engineering principles and guidance/oversight of other engineers. Perform basic mechanical and structural analysis using classical methods and tools. Develop design layouts, technical design criteria standards, drawings, reports, work statements, work hours estimates, and performance schedules to meet client requirements. Check and approve designs and analysis. Interface with client and client’s representatives on behalf of KTM SOLUTIONS, INC. Support the testing and certification of all designs. Present design concepts and finished designs to clients. Utilize the principles of systems engineering in the development and management of specifications and customer technical requirements.

Autonomy: Works independently, requiring infrequent supervision. Provides guidance to junior engineers and is instrumental in the design and development of company technical policy and organizational goals.

Impact: Frequent contacts with industry peers, clients, client representatives, and decision makers regarding technical performance and progress, contractual performance and issues, and follow on work requirements. Conducts technical briefings and meetings for both internal and external consumption. Provide guidance and direction for less experienced engineers.

Typical Minimums: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college. Ten (10) years design of mechanical design experience developing mechanical systems, mechanisms, machines, or material handling equipment. Ten (10) years CATIAv5, SolidWorks, and/or SolidEdge experience or equivalent demonstrated ability of other parametric CAD systems.

 

Specific Knowledge/Experience:
  • Extensive machine design background
  • First hand, ground-up design skills of mechanical machinery, automated machinery and automation assembly cells
  • Capable of conceptualizing and designing complex machinery from beginning to end
  • Stong working knowledge of SolidWorks (must demonstrate skill level)
  • Core skills in mechanical machine design
    • Static and dynamic design analysis
    • Machined parts, welded fabrications, sheet metal
    • Mechanical drive systems and power transmission
    • Hydraulics, and pneumatics
    • Application knowledge of motion control devises and I/O devises
    • Technical documentation, mechanical drawing, schematics
    • General electrical control knowledge and the ability to work hand in hand with control and software engineers in the development of machinery control systems (PLC’s, HMI’s, Servo drives, AC Freq drives, and a multitude of I/O devices)
    • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects
    • Ability to effectively lead a team of engineers (designers & CAD operators)
    • Strong customer and people skills
Preferences: Professional Engineering Registration in South Carolina. Five (5) years experience with composite material design. Five (5) years experience integrating control systems. Experience with OEM CATIAv5 environments, German language
