Job Summary:
Manages the Wholesale Underwriting function to produce third party originated residential mortgages and to contribute to the company vision by obtaining or exceeding established goals.
Essential Functions:
* Achieves the goals and objectives of the Wholesale Underwriting area by providing leadership, supervising, scheduling and directing staff and flow of work.
* Mentors/develops staff by providing regular feedback on performance, providing opportunities for development, writing performance/development reviews, making recommendations to reward performance exceeding standards and handling employee disciplinary issues in a professional, objective and impartial manner.
* Increases department efficiency/staff knowledge by reviewing underwriting processes and making appropriate adjustments and ensuring employees are adequately trained in specific job duties, as well as customer service skills, philosophy, telephone etiquette, etc.
* Ensures operational and staffing levels are adequate to meet departmental needs by conducting interviews and hiring staff, complying with federal, state, and local employment laws and promoting equal employment opportunity efforts.
* Provides superior service and upholds customer satisfaction to third party originators and internal/external customers by answering questions/requests and providing information in a timely manner.
* Ensures staff complies with bank procedures and follows the Privacy Policy, regulatory/operational guidelines by instructing/guiding employees.
* Ensures the safety and security of staff by updating the disaster plan in a timely manner, and ensuring staff is adequately trained in following/reporting safety and security procedures.
Secondary Functions:
* Works with staff to develop/implement procedures designed to increase efficiency levels.
* Maintains current residential mortgage industry knowledge and regulations by completing training sessions as scheduled.
* Represents the bank in local community by participating in civic and community events/activities.
* Contributes to the team effort by working on special projects, performs other job-related duties and accomplishes related results.
Job Standards:
* Achieves goals and production budget established for Wholesale department by working with the Wholesale Sales staff to close quality, saleable loans as evidenced by monthly goals/budget reports.
* Resolves issues and problems with staff, brokers and internal/external customers in a professional manner as evidenced by management observation.
* Ensures Wholesale Underwriting staff provides superior customer service as evidenced by exceptions service reports and minimal complaints from customers.
* Completes hiring of new personnel for open positions within 45 days of job posting.
* Employee performance reviews are thorough, accurate and submitted prior to due date.
* Provides individual coaching to staff as evidenced by documentation in personnel file.
* Ensures staff attends all mandatory/additional training within timeline specified.
* Sets the standards for staff on professionalism, customer service, teamwork and attendance as evidenced by management observation.
Physical Requirements:
* Talking—Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.
* Hearing—Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
* Seeing—Ability to view a computer screen for an extended period of time.
* Sitting—Ability to sit for extended period of time.
* Mobility—Ability to move from one place to another specifically in narrow/confined spaces to run copier or send faxes.
* Finger dexterity—Ability to work with fingers for handling coins, other small objects or documents and use a keyboard.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Bachelor’s degree in business related field or equivalent business related experience required.
* Minimum of 7 years residential mortgage experience to include supervision required.
* Minimum of 5 years high volume FHA manual underwriting experience required.
* Ability to demonstrate a strong knowledge of underwriting required.
* Demonstrates decision making/leadership skills and the ability to motivate others.
* Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, provide superior customer service and work well with others required.
* Ability to work well under time constraints, adapt to changing situations and have strong organizational/analytical skills required.
* Ability to use industry related software and work a flexible schedule according to department needs required.
