Description of Duties/Qualifications
Manages the daily operations of the Packaging Engineering group, providing strategic departmental direction in order to provide packaging development support.
Responsibilities/Job Overview:
1. Develops and manages to Standard Operating Procedures which govern the development of product packaging, labeling, instructions for use and manuals.
2. Identifies and develops core competencies as business needs dictate, specifically technology, tooling, and talent.
3. Independently distributes and monitors work queues to meet customer requirements.
4. Oversees projects of varying complexity covering the entire life cycle of product packaging including conceptual design, supplier development, process development, process deployment and continuing production support.
5. Is involved in the earliest phases of new product related engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives, where creativity or ingenuity is normally required.
Department Specific Responsibilities:
1. Work concurrently with Designer team leaders and area management by managing the process of development and manufacturing new packaging solutions and packaging equipment.
2. Justify Capital Acquisition Requests in support of the purchase or fabrication of test equipment and/or improvements in order to meet customer needs.
3. Develop and manage a supplier base to required to compliment the design and fabrication of thermoformed components, paper products, label stock, translations services and sterilization tray manufacturing.
4. Maintain packaging lab equipment, gauges and tooling by managing the calibration, preventative maintenance and general housekeeping practices/procedures/programs.
5. Develop and maintain a system of departmental metrics as part of an active management program to insure conformance to customer needs.
Minimum Qualifications And Competencies:
1. B.S. in Engineering disciplines with multiple years of industry experience required, including 3 years in a managerial capacity.
2. Knowledge of QSR and medical device packaging systems.
3. Ability to process engineering data.
4. Ability to independently manage all phases of new product development process.
