Description of Duties/Qualifications
Primary Responsibilities:

The mission of the Buyer/Planner is to plan, purchase, schedule and monitor the flow of materials from supplier, through the production line, and to finished goods per promise dates to customers and the production schedule. This is to be accomplished with minimal inventory levels, no production downtime, and optimum cost of use for all components purchased. This position has joint ownership (with the Purchasing Manager) for supplier development and component cost reduction, per the supplier rating system. In addition, the Buyer/Planner is responsible for representing the Purchasing/Materials department on various internal teams as directed by the Purchasing Manager.

Core Competencies:
* MRP - Review and analyze MRP reports, past due reports, expedite / de-expedite reports to ensure adequate materials are available to support the Production Schedule and Sales Forecast. Update Manman as necessary to insure most current information is reflected.
* Suppliers - Research, establish and maintain good working relationships with suppliers, to include supplier rating systems and cost reduction. Prepare and present the supplier scorecard, discuss the ratings and ways to improve it, with the vendor. Participate in site audits as part of the supplier development process.
* Material Review Board (MRB) - Represent the Purchasing / Materials department on the MRB to ensure proper disposition and response to Corrective Action request from suppliers, as required. Responsible to ensure the accurate transactions are entered in Manman per the MRB disposition.
* Accounting - Work closely with Accounts Payable to ensure returns and replacements or credits are accurately processed in Manman and suppliers are compensated for materials and services provided in a timely manner.
* Responsible for approving Document Change Notices (DCN) and implementing the disposition of assemblies or components per the instruction on the DCN.
* Assist production personnel in reconciliation of inventory discrepancies during the cycle count process and update Manman accordingly.
* Provide input to the Purchasing Manager on department procedures with an emphasis on quality and continuous improvement.

Skilled Abilities:
* Thorough understanding of Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) theory and practical application of MRP to the production environment.
* Competent computer skills with software applications to include Microsoft Word, Excel and working knowledge of integrated manufacturing business system software with practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and systems.
* Capable of gaining a solid background in Manman software operating principals and menu options to ensure accurate inventory information and planning parameters.
* Must possess excellent communication skills and work well with others under minimal supervision.

Physical Abilities:
* Ability to lift and/or move 35 pounds.
* Ability to sit and stand for a long duration of time.
* Ability to stand, stoop and bend periodically.
* Ability to perform routine, repetitive-motioned activities.

Additional Qualifications:
* High School diploma.
* AA degree in Business Administration or equivalent experience.
* Minimum two years experience purchasing electronic components and/or custom fabricated metal/plastic components.
* Previous experience in a medical device manufacturing environment preferred.
* Detail-oriented with strong PC skills.
* Capable with Microsoft Office software applications.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to read, write, comprehend and speak English.
