Description of Duties/Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
1.Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to a broad area of assignments.
2.Works under the general supervision of a higher level engineering or research executive.
RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB OVERVIEW:
1.Plans, conducts and supervises engineering assignments, normally involving several smaller or less important projects or one major project.
2.Estimates engineering personnel needs.
3.Schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
4.Coordinates engineers and technicians assigned to projects.
5.Maintains liaison with various divisions.
6.Reviews progress and evaluates results.
7.Makes changes in methods, design or equipment where necessary.
8.Generally operates with appreciable latitude for unreviewed action or decision.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Performs root cause analysis of critical product failures, with specific emphasis on those involving electrical and electronic sub-systems.
2.Documents and disseminates investigation results clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical stakeholders through engineering knowledge base, enterprise resource planning systems, and team discussion forums.
3.Uses investigation results in conjunction with design teams to recommend, develop, implement, and assess effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions, design rules, and checklists.
4.Develops protocols and fixturing/instrumentation to test electrical/electronic systems.
5.Acts as third-party consultant to new product development project teams in proactive risk management activities.
6.Mentors junior electrical engineers and technicians; conducts technical cross-training sessions on core competencies.
7.Works closely with design groups, Marketing, Quality, Manufacturing, Customer Service, Regulatory, Service & Repair, Sales, and end customers, both domestic and international.
8.Reports on analysis projects to the New Product Steering Committee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
1.Bachelors' degree in Electrical Engineering plus five (5) years experience, or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering plus two (2) years experience.
2.Works under minimal supervision of Principal Engineer; has appreciable latitude.
3.Ability to plan, conduct and supervise engineering assignments involving several smaller or less important projects or one major project.
4.Experience in estimating engineering personnel needs and scheduling work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
5.Displays competencies of positions listed lower in step progression.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.Analysis and design of analog and digital circuits, including embedded systems, filters, motor controls, and test circuits.
2.Methodical approach to system-, board-, and component-level troubleshooting.
3.Fluent in reading electrical schematics and part drawings.
4.Working knowledge of printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication and test technologies.
5.Understanding of applicable national and international standards (UL, IEC, etc.) for electrical medical devices.
6.Proficient in documentation requirements of regulated design control systems.
7.Good PC skills - MS Office, Lotus Notes, etc.
8.Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
9.Some travel required (<20%).
