Senior Process Engineer - Refining

Introduction 
Merrick & Company is looking for a Senior Process Engineer with specific experience in oil refining and refinery processes.

In March, our Aurora office will be moving to Greenwood Village.
 
Summary 
Lead process engineer on projects, responsible for managing all aspects of the process design and accountable to the project manager for performance against scope, budget and schedule. 

Duties  

  • Develops the process budget and schedule as part of the proposal process by analyzing the RFP (or equivalent).
  • Defines the process scope in cases where it is poorly defined in the proposal, including a basis of estimate (assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, exceptions, clarifications).
  • Authoring of proposal sections relevant to process design.
  • Acts as Merricks representative to clients, regulatory agencies and other external project stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Determines feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Analyzes feed, product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine appropriate designs and processes.
  • Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning.
  • Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develops design.
  • Directs preparation of process design deliverables including:
    • Mass and Energy Balances
    • Process Flow Diagrams
    • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
    • Equipment sizing calculations
    • Process line sizing calculations
    • Equipment datasheets
  • Reviews and checks the work of other process engineers to determine accuracy and completeness Reviews the work of other engineering disciplines to determine compliance with process requirements.

  6. Team Work - Balances team and individual responsibilities.
  7. Written Communication - Writes clearly and informatively; Edits work for spelling and grammar;
  8. Presents numerical data effectively; Able to read and interpret written information.
  9. Verbal Communication Able to clearly communicate to others at all levels within the organization.
  10. Able to report on progress to project senior management.
  11. Adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment.
     
Qualifications:  
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.  
  • Education/Experience:
    • Bachelors degree (B. S.) or equivalent in Chemical Engineering.
    • Must have at least ten (10) years experience in refinery and/or hydrocarbons processing design and operations.
    • Experience in bioprocessing a plus. 
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Internet software. In addition, experience in the following process software packages is advantageous:
1.             AFT Arrow
2.             AFT Fathom
3.             HYSYS
4.             Aspen Plus
5.             ProMax 
 
  • Certificates and Licenses: PE preferred and/or willing to pursue upon hiring.  
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: This job includes supervising engineers and designers to execute process engineering work to budget, schedule and quality requirements.
