Architect / Project Manager

Introduction
Merrick is seeking an experienced Architect/Project Manager to manage projects, provide architectural and technical leadership, and to assist in general management for projects and staff in our Kanata, Ontario office.
Job Description
As Project Manager, the successful candidate will:
o manage multi-discipline facility design and related projects to be executed primarily out of Merricks Kanata office.
o assist in business development activities including presentations to potential clients, preparation of proposals and estimating work (i.e. seller-doer)
o be accountable for defined financial performance on projects
o working with other technical discipline leasers, develop cost budgets for proposals
o become familiar and comply with Merricks project management systems, procedures and reporting protocols, and report regularly to Merrick senior management on project performance
o monitor and manage scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, quality and client expectations during pre project and execution phases of projects
o communicate and coordinate with all project stakeholders as required for successful project execution.
o develop and maintain positive client relationships
As Architect, the successful candidate will:
o carry out quality assurance checks on work performed by other architects
o provide architectural leadership on projects
o present architectural concepts in formal presentations to clients and project stakeholders
o act as responsible Designer of Record architect for projects designed in Kanata
o work with Merrick Technical Discipline Leaders and other senior technical staff to provide guidance on technical issues and assist in design efforts.
o assist in monitoring and directing the day-to-day work of project technical staff
General Management skills and responsibilities may include:
o Senior management representative for office technical staff
o Flexibility and experience to receive and disposition a variety of technical and administrative inquiries and issues on a daily basis.
o May be tasked to participate in a variety of professional and/or social societies or programs designed to elevate Merricks professional and community standing.
o High degree of professionalism, integrity, and business ethics required.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Hold current OAA registration
- Demonstrated ability to manage multidiscipline engineer/ designer/technical staffs.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills to interface successfully with client contacts.
- Demonstrated experience in managing highly technical projects (biological or nuclear containment, clean rooms, etc. projects is preferred)
- Must have a minimum of ten (10) years experience as a registered professional Architect
- Must be a Canadian Citizen (or capability to obtain, within 6 months)
- Strong business/project management skills
- Bachelor of Sciences degree or equivalent, from accredited University or Higher Education Institution
- Strong English language skills mandatory, with French language skills a plus
- Ability to travel to the US and other international locations
