Job Description:
Senior Structural Engineer TN-OAK-13-003 Introduction Merrick is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Oak Ridge, TN Office. Summary Designs equipment and facility structures for the DOE using DOE design standards and codes, including performing the following duties. Duties Work independently to perform detailed design on projects using MathCAD, MS Office and finite element analysis software. Stay within established schedule and budget, and coordinating with other disciplines. Assigned as Lead Structural Engineer on projects you shall: o Establishes design criteria o Manages work schedule o Coordinates multidiscipline technical aspects o Monitors scope and budget o Delegates work to other engineers on the project Assists in the development of proposals and marketing. Reviews & checks the work of other engineers to determine accuracy & completeness. Competency: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: 1. - Candidate must be a licensed Professional Engineer and able to obtain others within 3 months.
Education/Experience: - Bachelors degree (B. S.)from an A.B.E.T. accredited program is required,
- Masters degree is a plus;
- Ten (10) to twelve (12) years related experience required.
- Is current with DOE design standards and has DOE experience in the design of facilities and equipment. Examples of equipment would be Gloveboxes, Hot Cells, and other types of containment structures
Language Ability: - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Has the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Math Ability: Has the ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts. Reasoning Ability: Has the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Has the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Internet software. In addition, experience in the following process software packages is advantageous: 1. RISA 3D 2. GTSTRUDL 3. MathCAD Certificates and Licenses: Candidate is expected to have a PE and be able to obtain other state licenses within 3 months as required. Supervisory Responsibilities: As a Lead Structural Engineer on projects, establishes design criteria, manages work schedule, coordinates multidiscipline technical aspects, monitor scope and budget, and delegates work to other engineers on the project. You may also be required to assist in the development of proposals.
