Introduction
Merrick & Company is looking for a Sr. Electrical Engineer for our Los Alamos, NM office.
 
This office specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely-operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. Additional specialization includes the design of moderate hazard non-reactor nuclear facilities and facility upgrades.
 
This position will be located in Los Alamos, a small community located in the scenic high desert of Northern New Mexico.  Los Alamos offers access to a wealth of outdoor activities, an excellent public school system and a low crime rate.
 
The ideal candidate will have a passion for nuclear related design, mentoring a team and the outdoor life style of Northern New Mexico. Relocation assistance will be provided as part of the overall compensation package depending on experience. 
 
Job Description
The Sr. Electrical Engineer will design projects and supervise electrical engineers and electrical designers.  Work involves a variety of activities including conceptual and detailed design of low voltage and medium voltage power distribution, lighting, grounding, motor control systems, process equipment and instrumentation.  Perform non-routine assignments with little or no direction.
 
Candidate should have extensive knowledge of nuclear related design and have the ability to obtain a security clearance.
 
Specific Position Requirements:
         Attend client meetings and making presentations to clients
         Perform Code Reviews
         Lead design, development, and production of projects
         Redline project drawings
         Provide technical guidance and review of construction documents
         Write design narratives and specifications
         Communicate design changes to clients and other disciplines
         Perform project quality assurance/quality control, including independent technical reviews and interdisciplinary coordination reviews
         Perform construction observation/administration
         Create and managing schedule and budgets for projects
         Supervise, lead, manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers and designers
o   Problem solve, guide and mentor staff
o   Assess employee performance
o   Scheduling employee time
 
Required Experience
         Fifteen (15) years progressive experience, minimum
         PE license
         Nuclear related design (NQA-1, NRTL, etc.)
         Electrical calculations (power distribution, fault circuit analysis, lighting, grounding)
         Work in DOE environment
         SKM or ETAP experience a plus
         NEC, ISA, IEEE Regulatory Codes
         Degree Requirements:  Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
         U.S. Citizenship is required
