Job Summary:
Marygrove College seeks candidates for two tenure-track faculty positions in the Education Department. All positions begin Fall term 2008.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for all positions include teaching, advising, and supervising undergraduate and graduate students; participating in College governance; pursuing scholarship activities; utilizing to a high degree technology in instruction including on-line and hybrid e-learning; and developing field-based course components.
Qualifications:
Qualifications for all positions include earned doctorate in appropriate field, record of successful teaching/administration in K-12 school settings, evidence of potential for scholarship, experience working with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds, and ability to collaborate with liberal arts faculty colleagues on teacher education programs.
Assistant/Associate Professor/Graduate Program Coordinator, Reading
Responsibilities include in addition to teaching, advising, supervising degree candidates, developing and maintaining course offerings for the graduate reading program that are aligned with current research and practice for advanced literacy programs. Special qualifications include the doctorate in reading and language arts/literacy development with emphasis in early literacy. Evidence is required of successful pedagogy in reading, language arts, and literacy instruction; awareness of and sensitivity to socio-cultural impacts on literacy development; knowledge of current research on assessment of literacy development; and familiarity with national and state initiatives related to literacy standards. Record of leadership in professional organizations and published research is required for associate professor appointment. Teaching experience in K-12 school environments is desired.
Assistant Professor, Special Education
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate, post-degree, and graduate courses and supervising student teachers. Special requirements include demonstrated knowledge of social constructivist methods in the areas of assessment and instruction of students with mild/moderate learning disabilities. Facility with assistive/instructional technology and collaborative consultation is desired. Experience of at least three years in working with learning disabled children in K-12 school settings is required.

It has developed innovative programs for initial teacher preparation at the graduate level that address critical needs for certified teachers in math, science, reading, and special education. The Department pioneered a distance learning graduate master teacher program in 1995 and is set to launch the next-generation program in 2007-2008.
