The Vice President Of Patient Care, nder the direction of the President, directs, supervises, and coordinates functional/activities in the assigned areas of responsibility. The VP of Patient Care maintains close relationships with physicians and other customers to assess services and determine the need for change or new programs to achieve the institutions objectives; The VP of Patient Care provides leadership at the executive level coordinating nursing, direction, and administration of operations. Essential Duties: - Assures and promotes quality patient care, nursing services, and nursing care that is provided on a continuous basis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to those patients requiring such care and services.
- Reviews and recommends staffing guidelines and principles that support staffing plans that are based on patient acuity and census.
- Reviews and recommends current theoretical approaches to delivering patient care and strategies for examining and applying relevant concepts around the scope and complexity of patient care needs of the patient population served.
- Reviews/recommends approves staffing plans that are multi-skilled and patient focused following staffing guidelines, productivity measurements, variance responses, and the hospital plan of care to provide safe and effective care.
- Holds managers accountable for mandatory attendance in education, meetings, and assigned duties.
- Instills confidence in team members through recognition and reinforcement of successes and outcomes.
- Acts as administrative resource to solve problems with department managers concerning issues around staffing, resource utilization.
- Maintains a Patient Plan of Care based on care and services provided that is in alignment with mission, vision, and values of the MBO.
- Monitors and modifies plan according to shifts in demand for services and resource availability
- Communicates Plan of Care to staff and all others involved in supporting the provision of care and services.
- Continually defines, analyzes, and implements efficient workflow utilizing process improvement principles.
- Interprets hospital operational policies, objectives, and guidelines to department leaders assists with updating such policies when required.
- Maintains a work environment that develops leadership and accountability skills in all staff.
- Systematically empowers employees by relocating decision making for customer satisfaction to those serving the customer.
- Reviews/recommends/utilizes and ongoing mechanism for measuring and improving quality of service and outcomes.
- Assesses and implements plan for continuously improving own leadership skills.
- Develops own and staff skills in seeing organizational issues from the broad view, anticipating challenges and opportunities, thinking ahead, and the ability to react quickly with tactical responses to changes in work demands.
- Maintains effective system for ongoing solicitation, evaluation and implementation of ideas for improvement
- Challenges the status quo to improve efficiency of operations.
- Reviews/recommends/ensures that the competence of staff is assessed, maintained, demonstrated and improved on an ongoing basis.
- Creates and supports an environment that encourages employee ownership, problem solving, experimentation, creativity, calculated risk taking, desire to excel, and pride in success.
Qualifications Education: - Bachelors degree in Business or health related field.
Experience: - Eight years of progressively responsible experience in health care management to include management of multiple clinical units. Ability to manage in a continuous quality improvement environment. Demonstrates successful business development and growth in services.
License/Certification: - Licensed as a registered nurse in the state.
