Materials Chemical Safety Engineer

Statement of Function:
The Environment, Health & Safety Responsible will provide leadership concerning environment, health and safety related issues as they pertain to materials research & development and materials industrialization. This role is located at the interface between three entities providing a strong linkage and coordination between these entities for material environmental, safety and hygiene related issues.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor new material safety/hygiene approval processes.
- Verify effectiveness of approval process through regular audits in research labs and workshops.
- Monitor progression of new materials from R&D to pilot to industrialization (verify safety/hygiene approvals are complete prior to milestone completions as required).
- Communicate hazards of new materials to affected research personnel who will come in contact with each new material in a timely manner.
- Review and research material safety / hygiene / environmental regulations (US, Canada and Mexico in particular and Europe & Asia as they will impact North American material R&D).
- Plan and conduct Industrial Hygiene (air, water) sampling in research workshops and labs.
- Perform Job Safety & Hazard Analysis for all posts in research workshops.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
