X-Ray Technician

Description
Objective/Goal:
The x-ray technician is responsible for selecting, gathering and x-ray screening cured tires. This position requires the administration of the x-ray sampling program to check for belt placement, perform architectural studies, screen impound tires, and identify CQ issues. The technician is responsible for administering re-screens and issuing holds on tires that fail to meet the established quality compliance levels. With regard to x-ray, the technician must ensure that outgoing quality levels from the Fort Wayne plant meet the established requirements. In addition, the technician is a key link to the upstream production shops to provide information to allow enhanced troubleshooting of CQ and process issues.
Responsibilities:
- Selection and screening of sample tires for x-ray CQ’s using both manual and automated delivery routes
- Identify CQ’s in subject tires and implement re-screening procedure as dictated by process results
- Communicate with and assist the on-shift quality technician and shift managers to isolate suspect products from the production flow
- Coordinate x-ray re-screening process by directing the collection of re-screen tires from the warehouse
- Report findings to the plant QA department and upstream production shops
- Perform other process audits as required
List of Principal Activities:
- Operate x-ray controls to select tires from the TV flow system
- Perform manual screening of sample, architecture and re-screen tires
- Operate the X-Ray unit to identify subject CQ’s in the tire
- Perform administrative duties to include the issuing of reports each shift detailing the samples completed and the results of the screening
- Collect or direct the collection of sample and rescreen tires from TV or the Warehouse
- Understand the operation of the machine and delivery system and request maintenance support as needed
- Maintain supplies for x-ray system and replenish as necessary
- Be familiar with the impound procedures to assist the QA technician in the issue of impounds
- Be familiar with the plant production schedule to establish the daily sample and ensure that the required sample of tires are screened (number and code)
- Understand the collection points in TV for the tires to be screened, collect and return
- Identify, segregate and disposition suspect product from the x-ray process
