Green Tire Designer

Job Location: Greenville, SC

Shift: Full Time

Description:
This position designs uncured (green) tire models that correspond to the cured tire models requested by the tire design project engineer in the Aviation group. It is typically the entry point into the Michelin Research and Development tire design function. The incumbent performs routine design work requiring application of standard design techniques, procedures, and criteria.

The Aviation green tire designer works within a design team to design a tire to meet the engineering specifications identified by the customer and the tire design project engineer. Using 3D modeling software, this engineer creates a design that optimizes the manufacturability, quality, and cost of the tire.

The designer works closely with the manufacturing facilities to insure that the design takes into considerations the capabilities and limitations of the production equipment and tooling. The designer provides support to the plants in the industrialization of new tire designs and in the production, testing, and troubleshooting of prototype tire models.

Once the design has been finalized, the tire designer provides start-up assistance for the plant to insure that any initial production issues for the design get resolved.

As the tire designer becomes more experienced, she/he becomes a mentor and a trainer to further develop the technical knowledge within the tire design community.

Education:
BS or MS degree in an engineering field is required. The preferred degree is in Mechanical Engineering, but other engineering degrees are acceptable if the candidate has design experience, either in school or in the workforce.

Experience:
For recent graduates, design experience in school, in CO-OP jobs, or intern programs, is required. For others, 2-3 years of design experience, in addition to the engineering degree, is required.

Software knowledge:
Experience with 3D CAD modeling systems is very desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required. Having additional language skills in French or Spanish is a plus.
