Description
Tire mold designers are typically members of a tire or retread development project team. They receive design direction from Research and Development Project Engineers and are responsible for designing tire molds in support of product development and research projects.
Responsibilities and competencies include the ability to use computer tools to optimize design of tread patterns for noise, snow traction, contact surface ratio and aesthetic appeal.
A new candidate would be required to attend the Michelin Americas Research and Development (MARC) mold designer training program. This program includes extensive computer aided design training using CATIA.
Principal activities include:
- Utilize computer tools to optimize design of tread patterns for various performance characteristics
- Design sidewall lettering and styling
- Create tire mold design drawing packages
- Communicate with tire mold suppliers regarding details of design, logistics, and timing
- Maintain records of tire mold drawing packages in accordance with specification requirements
Education requirement:
BS ME or BS MET is required
Skills:
CATIA software experience is highly desired
Strong communication skills: verbal and written
