Description
This position provides the technical leadership and management of tire development projects. The incumbent has the overall project responsibility to provide the final tire (cured tire) design that meets the customers performance requirements.
As the project engineer, the incumbent must work closely with the customers to understand their specifications and tire performance demands. Once the design requirements are known, the individual coordinates with the appropriate technical areas to conduct feasibility studies for the tire project.
After the final tire specifications have been developed within the project team, the project engineer must negotiate and secure the technical resources to meet the project goals.
Throughout the design project, the Cured Tire Designer/Project Engineer must utilize the technical and project management skills required to successfully bring a tire design to its conclusion. This includes directing and managing the design reviews, failure mode analysis, product performance validation, quality analysis, and product testing.
During the project this individual also summarizes the results of the project versus the objectives, and provides periodic reviews to the Research and Development teams. This includes assuring the completion of the required documentation of the project.
As the cured tire designer/project engineer becomes more experienced, she/he becomes a mentor and a trainer to further develop the technical knowledge within the tire design community. The experienced design engineer proposes innovations to make breakthrough performance level changes and identifies new material and process technology needs for future developments.
