The General Construction Engineer using customer specifications, under the responsibility of a lead Engineer, specifies and/or designs and constructs industrial and commercial buildings. This includes the required process utilities (high and low voltage, fluids, etc.).

Responsibilities:

  • Leads Construction Team and responsible for the execution of safe construction and pre-commissioning.
  • Working with Project Manager, Commissioning Manager, Operations Representative to manage the construction schedule and manage contractors to their individual schedules that are aligned with the overall project schedule.
  • Give direction to Discipline leaders and technical validators, coordinating activities of multiple construction contractors in the field to maintain construction, pre-commissioning and Communicate activities and coordinate with Site Operations Representative to prevent interference between the project and the site
  • Respect agreed-to project scope and coordinate any potential changes with discipline leaders and contract managers to minimize work stoppages and change orders; participate in the change order approval process.Lead weekly 1hr coordination meetings with Owner and with Contractors, implement action tracking system for meeting
  • Communicate issues concerning schedule to Project Manager and Discipline Leaders as necessary
  • Identify potential equipment delivery issues with Discipline Leader and Purchasing resources to expedite as needed
  • Provide written weekly progress updates, KPI and issues to Project Manager
  • With input from the Discipline Leaders/Technical Validators contributes to the Project Monthly Report based on consolidated contractor reporting
  • Participates in the safe work permitting process
  • Leads the acceptance for commissioning (R1) review(s)
  • Leads the daily/weekly MDP (Managing Daily Progress) visual process during the construction phase
  • Participates in weekly project safety meeting
  • Completes constructability reviews as part of project approval process
  • Provides the link between PM and discipline leads
  • Provides the link between PM and Safety Responsible
  • Assists with document control

Qualifications
Requirements:

  • B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years construction management experience or
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering degree with 5+ years construction management experience in a petrochemical manufacturing environment
  • Knowledgeable in Stage-gate project management
  • Demonstrated practice of construction quality assurance activities
  • Strong Oral/Written Communication skills
  • Candidate must be a proactive, action oriented individual
  • Proficient in MS Project and Office
