Summary
Preferred Mental Health experience is acceptable.
Position includes direct support services at the facility and co-leading a day activity program; inc. transport, leading small group, community activities.

The Certified Medication Aide is a staff position hired to assist in the provision of medical services and supports to individual consumers residing in the Residential Care Facility for Persons with Mental Illness (RCF-PMI). The primary responsibility of the position is to provide individually tailored support that allow consumers the opportunity to utilize medication and psychiatric care in the community, follow prescribed orders and work as a liaison between medical professionals and individual consumers.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
* Assist in the development of a medication service plan that is individual to each consumer.
* Participate in a semi-annual review of self-medication goals established with the consumer.
* Provide daily support to the consumer according their established medication goals.
* Complete a quality assurance check to establish accuracy of supply, administration or self-administration of medication.
* Provide instruction to the consumer as needed to improve understanding of medications, therapeutic intent and adverse reactions.
* Insure an uninterrupted supply of medications for the consumer.
* Support the consumer in scheduling and attending medical appointments according to the following schedule.
* Annual physical examination.
* Semiannual dental examination.
* Bi-annual eye examination.
* Quarterly medication review with psychiatrist.
* Quarterly or semi-annual medical reviews as indicated by physician.
* Other appointments, as needed.
* Complete record keeping, summarizing and reporting of medication and health related issues as it pertains to each consumer.
* Support the consumer in the reordering of medications according to their established medication goals.
* Communicate with collateral providers (medication/medical) as needed to inform or assure services.
* Work diligently to incorporate the spirit and intent of the mission of the organization into daily work;
* Act as a role model to co-workers and consumers.
* Adhere to established agency policies, procedures and protocols.
* Carry the on-call pager, as assigned and respond per agency protocol and procedure.
* Work hours as assigned.

Qualifications

* Ability to work with limited supervision.

Education And/Or Experience
* High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one year related experience.

Language Skills
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills
* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability
* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
* This person must qualify with the company's underwriter as an insurable driver and possess legal driving privileges in the State of Iowa unless exempted in writing by Mainstream Living.
* Must be certified by a medical professional to be free from communicable diseases.
* Must be a Certified Medication Aide.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
