Job Description
The responsibility of this function is to perform the lead catcher tasks while the multiprinter is running and perform finishing makeready tasks prior to start-up. As a member of the production team, the Production Assistant function will help with machine makeready and clean up as needed. As a member of a Production Team, this position will eventually learn and perform operator and imaging functions. In addition, the Team Member must work in a team environment with little supervision and cooperate and work with others, share knowledge and information and take the initiative to improve process and solve problems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Catch, insert and pack finished product from multiprinter. Prepare packing lists for mailing and/or shipping.
2. Fully understand and follow order specifications and tolerances by reading docket and specifications sheets.
3. Continuously inspect product register, stubs, perfs, glue, color, overall printing and intelligent imaging. Alert operator if problem is detected.
4. Apply postal rules and regulations for packing orders for direct mail and completing skid tags. Follow loading schedule.
5 During makeready, secure all materials and equipment for the job according to specifications such as: labels, boxes, cartons, filler, skids, packing and skid tags, bag tags and tab lists. Equipment : tiers, skids, sealer, etc.
6. Operate CRT to change tapes, run systems program and reset tapes.
7. Keep multiprinter and surrounding work areas clean and neat at all times and cooperate in keeping the entire plant and grounds neat.
8. Work with other team members and departments to reduce makeready and to increase operating efficiencies.
9. Comply with all safety rules and regulations. Utilize guards on machines when in operation.
10. Follow safety, production, recycling, and other set procedures ensure a safe and productive work environment.
11. Be prepared for changes in duties and responsibilities due to plant growth, equipment changes and shift requirements.
12. Expected to cross train, learn and perform other team functions such as imaging, press operation, and press makeready. This includes webbing press, paper roll handling, assistance with setting up of equipment for imaging and press operations, and clean up of multiprinter and other equipment.
13. Train other team members as necessary.
14. Train and direct outside temporary personnel as necessary.
15. Willing to work overtime as needed.
Qualifications
Must have good basic math skills. Measurement skills by usage of a ruler is required. Good mechanical skills are required. Ability to read, comprehend what is read and visually inspect written materials to check for quality and specifications. Ability to discriminate colors and compare to specifications required. Ability to lift under 50 pounds frequently and 50 pounds and over occasionally is required. High school education or equivalent required. Post high school degree in printing, instrumentation, electro- mechanical, electronics or related area desirable. Previous work experience in manufacturing or printing related environment helpful. Ability and willingness to learn other functions of imaging and operations of the multiprinter and take additional courses and training to update skills/knowledge. Ability to work in a team environment with little supervision. This ability includes cooperating and working with others, sharing knowledge and information, and taking initiative to improve process and solve problems. CRT or keyboarding operations experience desirable.
