Job Function
The Equipment Spectrum Is Diverse; Each Area Requires The Individual To Be Well Versed In Mechanical, Heat Transfer, Materials, Refractory, Fluids, Instrumentation And Combustion Skills.

The Position's Functions Include Determining And Applying Best Technology To Specify Equipment, Assist Purchase, Follow-Up Detailed Design, Assist Start-Up, And Be The Pivotal Contact Point To Transfer Technology Between Plants From Outside Sources, Such As Other Companies And Other Company Organizations.

Likely Candidate Would Have 15+ Years Experience In Some Technologies Mentioned Above. Additional Technical Knowledge Can Be Learned In Perhaps Five Years. Developing Vendor Relationships And Face-To-Face Plant Contacts Is Key To This Role. Vendors For The Different Fired Equipment Types Are Different. Vendors For A Specific Fired Equipment Type Differ From USA To Europe To Asia. This Job Position Emphasizes Personal, Face-To-Face Contacts.

As Fired Equipment Types Differ From Plant To Plant, Most Candidates Probably Don't Immediately Meet All Requirements. A Prospective Candidate Will Need To Be Mentored.

The Prospective Candidate Should Meet Most Of These Following Criteria:
  • Commitment To Work The Several Years Necessary To Become Proficient;
  • Sound Mechanical Background In A Plant;
  • Thermodynamic, Fluid Flow, And Heat Transfer Knowledge Are Desirable;
  • Ability To Coordinate Fired Equipment Tasks With Other Specialist Areas, E.G. Mechanical, Materials, Inspection, Machinery, Instrumentation, Controls, Environmental, Etc. Fired Equipment Engineer Will Need To Know Enough About These Fields To Determine When These Other Groups Should Assist;
  • Combustion Knowledge Can Be Taught During Mentoring;
  • Ability To Travel Up To Two Weeks Per Month To Worldwide Plants, Vendor Offices, And Contractor Offices;
  • Ability To Work In Office Setting And Field. After Proficiency Is Attained, It's The Field Work That Makes The Difference.

Mechanical Equipment Specialist For Process-Driven Design Applications, Heat Transfer, And Combustion. Process And Product Development That Emphasizes Project Planning And Implementation, Mechanical Design And Field Service Work.

Cost Factors Are Fuel, Efficiency, Avoiding Spurious Trips, Minimizing Maintenance Downtime And Turnaround, And Properly Selecting And Designing This Equipment.

Avoiding Spurious Steam System Trips Such As Steam Fired Boilers. Reliable Steam System Starts With Highly Reliable Equipment.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide A Total Job Scope Effort For Projects. The Job Scope Spans The Design Phase Through Procurement Through Non-Process-Quality-Control Follow-Up Engineering During Project Execution Through Start-Up Implementation. Concepts From The Detailed Engineering And Start-Up Phases Are Recycled Into Planning The Next Design Specification. Purpose Is Safe Equipment, Improve Plant Operability, Achieve Ease In Manufacturing And Maintenance, And Minimize Costs By Sensible Selection Of Design Features.
  • Provide An Overview System Outlook To Assist Plant In Defining And Meeting Specific Needs, Such As Capacity, Reliability, Safety, Maintenance, And Schedule. Ensure The Equipment's Integration Into The Overall Process Or Utility System.
  • Provide Base Plant Support Troubleshooting. Provide Thermal And Mechanical Designs, Assistance In Project Execution, Improving Operations, Troubleshooting, And Handling Of Unique Combustion Problems.
  • Actively Seek Out Projects With Other Groups At An Early Stage. Be A Team Participant Rather Than An Occasional Consultant Limited To Specific Equipment. Apply The Specific Knowledge Of The Equipment To Help Select The Best Overall System.
  • Maintain Vendor Contacts With The Major Equipment Suppliers And Their Sub-Vendors Through Correspondence And Visits.
  • Maintain Industry Contacts Through Industry Standards Development At The American Petroleum Institute, International Organization Of Standardization, And Other Industry Consortiums.

To Qualify - You Must Have All Of The Following Requirements:
  • Minimum 15 Years Direct Work Experience
  • In Our Clients' Industry Performing The Specified Roles / Functions
  • College Bachelors Degree In Mechanical Engineering
  • Accredited College Or University / Masters and PhD's Welcome
  • USA Citizenship Or USA Permanent Resident Card
