Duties of the Lead Loan Review Officer

Completes credit administration reviews. Leads the ongoing independent evaluation of the Banks commercial and specialty loan portfolios quality. Ensures compliance with recognized policies, regulatory guidelines, sound lending practices and the stability of lending practices. Performs under limited direction and provides feedback to executive management. Submit written reports detailing internal loan and credit administration reviews, complete with risk evaluations and associated data to leadership. Help further the loan review risk assessment, program, and goals alongside senior bank leadership. Complete loan reviews of complex loan types and sample standardized portfolios including large, multipart or high-risk lending areas.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties of the Lead Loan Review Officer

  1. Assess the activities of lending personnel, ensuring such activities are compliant with lending policies and the quality of their loan approval, monitoring, and risk grading valuation.
  2. Discuss all well-known deficiencies and recognized weaknesses, and any existing or planned corrective actions, including time frames for correction, with apt loan officers and managers.
  3. Detect potential systemic problems in the life cycle of a credit from origination, underwriting, documentation, and problem loans.
  4. Track corrective action of noted weaknesses through to resolution and report such action or inaction to executive leadership.
  5. Utilize formal methodology to set the loan review scope and prepare ongoing risk assessments of the Banks various portfolios.
  6. Conduct credit risk assessments by evaluating the financial position of borrowers considering prudent lending practices through financial/cash flow analysis and applying credit principles and banking regulations.
  7. Detect potential systemic problems in the life cycle of a credit from origination, underwriting, documentation, and problem loans.
  8. Review loan policies and procedures compliance with relevant state, UCC and federal banking laws and regulations.
  9. Prepare written reports. Summarize overall review findings including risk grade changes, impairment recommendations, and recommendations aimed at improving the quality of certain loans, the departments credit administration practices, or compliance with lending policies.
  10. Collaborate with external auditors and regulators, as needed.
  11. Validate the accuracy of the inputs to the models utilized in the credit grading/loan review system.
  12. Develop internal loan review procedures to evaluate credit administration and residual credit risk, as well as manage the loan review program.
  13. Evaluate the adequacy of and adherence to Bank loan policies and procedures.
  14. Endorse appropriate loan risk grade or adversely classify loans, particularly those with credit weaknesses that endanger the repayment.
QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:

  • Knowledge base:
    • Credit risk management best practices, policies and procedures;
    • Loan accounting, credit analysis, financial analysis, lending practices, banking regulations, and the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC);
    • Financial analysis including ratio, trend, and cash flow analysis;
    • Lending policy, procedures, loan documentation and appraisal requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills to prepare and present persuasive oral and written reports effectively to bank personnel of all levels, including internal and external auditors and regulatory examiners
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point)
  • Gather information, identify linkages and trends and apply findings to assignments
  • Motivate and persuade others to achieve desired outcomes without organizational authority
  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance
  • 12 + years of direct loan review or loan audit experience, or a minimum of 9+ years of equivalent lending, credit underwriting or portfolio management experience
  • Facilitate meetings safeguarding that all viewpoints, ideas and problems are addressed
