FARM MANAGER: Watermelons, Pumpkins, Dry Beans Bliss, ID (Relocation provided) 80mi SE of Boise, ID; 34mi NW of Twin Falls Top 3 skills that will likely win an interview: Must have good farm management - any agricultural products OK. 1. Previous management experience growing row crops including agronomic and watering decisions. 2. ability to prioritize and problem solve 3. Good with numbers and number decisions. Farm grows melons, pumpkins, squash and beans. Grows mainly fresh produce, pack and ship directly to warehouse chains. Also grow and harvest dry beans for seed production. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus This person will manage all aspects of crop production and land stewardship in all assigned fields. This will include being accountable for the overall management, resources, opportunities, people, progress, and maximizing the farms profits. This position reports directly to the General Manager. Reporting Positions: Irrigation technician, and Irrigators (Direct reports could range between 10-30 depending on time of year) Supporting Positions on site: General Manager Director of Field Operations All other Farm Unit Managers Shop Personnel Office Personnel Duties Assist in the development of the annual field, crop, and unit input budgets. Manage crop production in your unit for the best possible yield and quality. This may include the following crops: alfalfa, beans, beets, potatoes, corn, squash, watermelon, and pumpkins. Manage, maintain, and improve the lands farmed for the greatest possible productivity and sustainable husbandry. Manage and work with the Irrigation Foreman to assure that the irrigators and irrigation systems are providing timely and even applications of water to the crops. Help formulate pre-season plans to for all activities and applications for each separate field. Continually evaluate yield, quality, and production costs for efficiencies and improvements that will maximize crop revenues. Assist in recruiting talented personnel to accomplish company and unit goals. Supervise and be accountable for the planting of each crop in each field. If crops do not start right, they cannot end right. Continuously, in conjunction with agronomist, scout crops for water requirements, fertility, pests, and weeds and take appropriate action to meet yield and quality goals. Record all crop inputs and applications. Work closely with landowners to inform them of anything that will affect them. Coordinate with the Director of Field Operations for all actions involving farm equipment. This includes use of controlling calendars for all field operations. Attend and participate in all assigned management and other meetings. Speak up when something does not seem to be right or is not in alignment with stated company objectives and goals. Assist management and quality checks of harvest crews in field. Must not be shy of computers and technology. These will be used extensively. Clean driving record and valid drivers license Other projects and duties, as assigned. Time Requirements Approximately 2500 hours per year. This involves more time during growing days and less during non-growing days. QUALIFICATIONS Previous farm management is required. This person will manage approx 3000-5000 acres of crops, English is primary language; Spanish is a plus. Will supervise 10-30, depending on season. Education: None
