This is a new position and will take responsibility for all EH&S activities.Reports to the V.P of Operations. The company works four ten hour days and takes Fridays off.

Environmental, Health and Safety Manager

PRIMARY PURPOSE or JOB SUMMARY

The EHS Manager`s primary purpose is to grow the companys safety culture to achieve world class EHS performance. The EHS Manager is responsible for all facets of day-to-day operations for EHS, including responsibility for safety, environmental compliance, employee engagement, process productivity, efficiency and quality for EHS.

Tactically deploys the strategy and safety vision for the company. Effectively executes against the strategy to elevate safety and environmental performance to world-class levels. Assesses, coaches and grows the plant EHS extended team, enabling the talent and skills necessary to drive continuous improvement towards world-class safety and environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Promote a Zero Injury Safety Culture: Provide leadership and coaching to grow the leadership team, plant operations and plant safety committee to create a workplace free of recognized hazards, promote safe work behaviors, and foster a lean safety culture that keeps the safety of employees a business value.

2. Grow EHS and operations team in the deployment, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of Environmental Health and Safety programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.

3. Manage and implement controls to monitor progress of EHS continuous improvement and compliance for the site. Leverage the data and findings to implement true root cause corrective actions. Grow efforts to minimize any legal regulatory activity from government authorities.

4. Implement training strategies and course curriculum to advance the knowledge of the team including advancing Lean EHS.

5. Collaborate with appropriate departments on the tactical development and deployment of loss prevention (Fire and WC) strategies to reduce loss experience.

6. Maintain 100% compliance as a foundation, and advance to grow the EHS culture to find and eliminate waste, tactically implement opportunities for company to continuously improve environmental programs in the areas of pollution abatement, environmental and waste water management and to identify ways to minimize processes that affect employee safety and the environment.

7. Partner with the team to ensure regulatory compliance, and life safety risks are adequately managed for new capital investments. Effectively coach the implementation of change management.

8. Provide guidance, interpretation and verification for EHS KPIs. Perform analysis of data (including behaviors, near miss and first aid cases) to identify trends and set targets in alignment with company goals, and develop proactive action plans / programs based on pareto analyses to improve performance.

9. Maintain internal environmental recordkeeping and reporting.

10. Collect data and prepare external environmental reports (e.g., OSHA, EPA, SC DHEC, ReWa) as necessary and support responses to governmental agency requests for information on present and past environmental activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in engineering (or chemistry or physical sciences or similar), with required specialization in environmental or safety.
  • Minimum 7 years EHS experience in manufacturing or chemical industry.
  • ISO 14001, OSHA VPP, safety management systems, project management, hands on experience desired.
  • Specialized knowledge and successful track record in the design, implementation, and monitoring of critical EHS programs including those associated with air emissions, auditing, emergency planning, incident investigation, pollution control, spill response, wastewater treatment, waste management, SPCC, TRI reporting and general chemical management.
  • Knowledge of US Federal, state, and local environmental and transportation laws, regulations, rules and standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the capability to promote positive behavior through effective recognition.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and influence individuals at all levels of the organization to build strong collaborative partnerships.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to embrace and drive positive change within an organization.
  • Strong knowledge of continuous manufacturing processes.
  • Skilled in project management.
  • Experienced in the planning and implementation of EHS management systems and compliance programs.
  • Demonstrated success in leading/facilitating environmental process improvements and management systems.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong computer skills
  • Exposure to Lean Six Sigma EHS implementation at a medium to large manufacturing location.
  • Experience with OSHA VPP, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, wastewater.
  • Record of implementing and maintaining behavior based safety cultures.
