Manufacturing Engineer
Process manufacturing/ high temperature processes: specialty glass, ceramics, metals, and related.

Scope of Position:

Supporting early stage manufacturing (both process and equipment) to meet sample making commitments

Improving existing manufacturing processes, equipment and capabilities

Supporting or leading continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects

Working with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems

Day to Day Responsibilities:

Provide problem solving support (both process and equipment) to production operations

Train operations personnel on equipment and processes

Use rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps

Assure safety of operators and equipment and comply with safety and environmental regulations

Function as a team member or team leader on focused projects

Trouble shoot material, process and equipment issues, identify root causes and implement corrective actions

Implement and document material, process and/or equipment changes

Use simple statistical tools and Designed Experiments (DOE) in process problem solving and process improvement

Assure quality and repeatability of processes and products

Support new product introductions through equipment upgrades, process validation, documentation and training

Develop SME knowledge of material, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing or engineering

Travel Requirements:

M-F, business hours; Flexible hours may be required to support off-hours experimentation/operations on weekends and evenings

Required Education:

BS or MS in Engineering (Materials, Mechanical, Ceramics, Chemical)

Required Years of Experience:

2-5 years of manufacturing experience (can include internships and co-ops)

Required Skills:

Character ethic, integrity and leadership

Creative/innovative problem solving

Strong technical fundamentals with process engineering skills

Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions

Results oriented and high commitment

Able to handle multiple complex tasks and set priorities with multiple internal customers

Demonstrated leadership or teamwork in accomplishing common goals

Strong data analysis and interpretation skills

Practical experience with basic statistics

Basic knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC) methodology

Desired Skills:

Six Sigma Green Belt trained

Product and process development (Innovation Stages 2 & 3)

Early stage manufacturing experience

Soft Skills:

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Personal initiative and commitment

Organized with good planning and time management skills

Ability to build relationships within cross functional groups; team building skills

Positive attitude, flexible and good work ethic
