Excellent high desert/mountainous location for the outdoors type without the expense of the crowded coastal areas of California located in the Bakersfield / Ridgecrest / Mojave area.

Our client is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Engineer-Civil/Mechanical. This individual is responsible for providing technical expertise on large and/or complex engineering and construction projects across the company through all phases of project development and execution (EPC). This person will be part of a team of project engineers, technicians and staff who design, develop, construct and implement engineering projects. This position will report to the Manager-Central Engineering. Compliance with applicable State and Federal Regulations related to safety and environment is an important part of this position.

Qualifications:

-BS in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with 7 years related construction and project engineering experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in manufacturing environment required; heavy industry preferred.
- Must have working knowledge of both Mechanical and Civil Engineering fundamentals
- Project management experience preferred.
-Working knowledge of industrial and chemical processes.
-California Civil Engineering PE preferred.

Key responsibilities:

As part of the Central Engineering team, help to develop capital project options, concepts, cost estimates and time lines.

  • Execute detailed project engineering activities including: engineering drawings, stress analysis, project schedules, etc.
  • Develop project proposals as requested, including technology selection, complete scope, systems and equipment, cost estimate and proposed schedule by applying knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Use technical expertise to help ensure engineering activities are completed on schedule and within project budget.
  • Provide accurate and timely activity reporting to internal and external customers


As a civil engineer, work with the various production managers to identify and execute engineering projects across the company including field surveying, mapping, site drainage and soil analysis/compaction, concrete foundation design, structural steel analysis and design for new projects and existing equipment as needed.

As a mechanical engineer, perform engineering on capital projects for the Central Engineering group, including piping design, materials of construction, valve selection and application, pump selection and design application, atmospheric storage tank design and pressure vessel design.

Provide technical consulting assistance to the Company and outside engineering personnel in project management, construction management, engineering, design, project controls, equipment specifications, procurement, project reviews, installation, checkout, start-up, and testing, troubleshooting, optimization to support project goals and plant objectives.

  • Review and recommend appropriate equipment and systems for new projects and existing installations to ensure that they comply with known safety best practices, applicable codes and standards.
  • Develop detailed project specifications including drawings, data sheets, etc. in full compliance with recognized industry standards, safety standards and various client specifications.
  • Provide engineering support as needed and be on-call for critical plant/asset failures.
  • Work closely with manufacturing team at all levels to resolve technical issues, applying engineering and technical skills to design, optimize and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Support Central Engineering group in reviewing equipment specifications and equipment selection, monitoring installation and successful start-up of mechanical equipment in specific facility.
  • Perform technical analysis, testing, calculations, and evaluation of results to solve complex engineering problems.


Perform detailed reviews of capital and expense projects to ensure superior execution and policy compliance is achieved, updating appropriate management as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with local/city/state/federal governments, building codes, and permits.
  • Ensure proper environmental requirements are covered in associated contracts to ensure compliance.
  • Help troubleshoot project issues and engage appropriate resources as needed to resolve.


Perform engineering and construction activities in an effective and efficient manner consistent with Company, State and Federal health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to achieve production and operation cost goals and ensure a safe work environment.

Required Skills:

  • Working knowledge of mechanical equipment and engineering principles as it pertains to design, operation, maintenance and asset life cycle.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and chemical process equipment and process control.
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics as it pertains to piping design and system head analysis
  • Must possess knowledge of atmospheric storage tank and pressure vessel design.
  • AUTOCAD proficient. 2D (3D desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in project management with multi-faceted, long term projects.
  • Working knowledge of civil engineering practices and principles.
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and work at all levels of organization as circumstances require.
  • Able to investigate, research and evaluate a wide spectrum of technical problems and develop alternate solutions.
  • The successful candidate must be willing and able to spend up to 40% of the time in physical plant areas with occasional exposure to outdoor weather and loud noise.
