General Description of Position and Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Academic Success Center (ASC) consists of tutoring services and a full-service computer lab. The Math and Science tutoring positions are contract employees (contingent upon funding). Contract employees are expected to adhere to Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) policies and procedures.

When an individual accepts a Tutor position at Northwest Arkansas Community College, he/she also accepts responsibilities and obligations as a professional educator. In the same spirit which the college faculty member, tutors must never use a tutoring position for any non-professional or personal purpose. This position reports to the Academic Success Center Director and Coordinator.

Tutors duties include but are not limited to:

1. Providing tutoring services to NWACC students currently enrolled in math and science course.
2. Providing guidance and support to students seeking assistance with academic skill building (note-taking, study habits, and time management).
3. Tutors are responsible for tracking services provided in an internal database system. Data collection is a critical process in quality and process improvement initiatives.
4. Maintaining an environment conducive to learning in the Tutoring Center free of clutter and noise.
5. Participation in staff training activities and area related workshops.
6. Following policy and procedures set by the college and the Academic Success Center.

Tutor hours are based on scheduling needs and are established as regular weekly hours and possibly by appointment. The Academic Success Center is under no formal obligation to provide a specific number of work hours to part-time and work study employees.

II. Tutor Certification

Every tutor is expected to participate in tutor training leading to College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Tutor Certification. Tutors who do not complete CRLA certification within a semester will be terminated.

Salary: $10.00 per hour . This is a part time position with no benefits.

Required Qualifications:

Qualifications

1. Proven skill in content field, demonstrated by academic record and/or teacher recommendation.
Usually, this means a grade of A or B earned in the course to be tutored. All applicants should understand that their academic record will be checked to verify this qualification.

2. College student or graduate with good communication skills and respect for the dignity of others.

3. Record or demonstration of informal tutoring experience indicated by personal recommendation.

4. Proficient on PC and MAC computers. Highly functional usage of the Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).

5. Record or demonstration of experience indicated by personal references or pre-employment computer test.
