Job Summary:
Assist faculty in planning, constructing, and fabrication of theatrical scenery from wood, plastic, and steel as well as scenery rigging for 4 Vivia Locke and 3-4 Davis Theatre productions as well as 1-2 summer productions. Assist in installation of lighting and sound. Purchase all materials needed for scenery fabrication. Perform routine maintenance and safety inspections on theatre rigging, electrical, lighting, and sound equipment and systems. Tool repair, sharpening, storage, and replacement of tools and equipment. Inventory of consumable goods and supplies.
Education and Experience
Required
Field of Study: Theatre Production and Design
Degree Bachelor's
Experience: 3-4 years professional theater technician and stage hand experience
Certifications, Registrations, or Licenses Valid Driver's License
Skills, Proficiencies and Knowledge Skill and knowledge of theatrical scenery construction and engineering technologies. Skill in theater welding, wood and metal fabrication as applied to theatrical scenery. Knowledge of safe rigging and fly system use and practices. Working knowledge of stage electrical practices including wiring, cabling, dimmer and lighting hook up, and use of DMX controlled devices such as fog machines, intelligent lighting, and other special effects. Working knowledge of power tool safety and practices. Ability to teach lab students in the safe and appropriate techniques associated with specialized scenery construction practices. Project planning and production work scheduling. Valid driver's license.
